The Casey game will help tell us who the ins are, but the outs to me are relatively obvious:

Out: Watts, Howe, Byrnes.

We'll see who puts their hand up to take their spots, but these three have to go.

In Kent Riley and Garland

Will also depend on suspensions from the game if any.

As long as Watts is out. Everything I said last after the last game still applies, so I won't bother repeating.

Howe is in a slump and may be dropped, but honestly, he's providing more than Watts right now.

As above, we'll see what happens with suspensions. I suspect Georgiou is in trouble.

Inclusions could be anything. I think Strauss has been playing well, and Clisby could have a claim.

Realistically - how many to come in for best 22? I'd say Reilly, Kent, Toumpas, Garland, Hogan obviously and maybe, maybe Fitzpatrick and Evans.

To go would probably be Byrnes, Jetta, Terlich and Bail, then Howe when Hogan is ready.

So, when the guys in the first line are ready, the guys in the second line go.

This week I say:

In: Garland, Reilly

Out: Terlich, Jetta

Kent for Byrnes and Toumpas for Bail.

That's about best 22 I reckon.

Edit: Clisby as well. For whoever!

That's no reason to select him.

Howe's game tonight was no better than Watts, not at all. I think some just hate Watts so much they want to make sure we all think he's awful. He is, but Howe was just as bad tonight.

There is no percentage on zero RM

honestly you are splitting hairs both were terrible tonight

Garland has to come back in. I was thinking tonight we dont have anyone good to come back in. But I forgot about Col. We need his experience in the backline. Kent if fit has to come in as well.

Out Watts Howe Byrnes

In Garland Kent? Riley or Fitzpatrick

Depending how Fitz goes for Casey, will benefit from having Dawes and Frawley up forward with him. Can pinch hit in the ruck.

Riley will help our clearance %. Kent can fill the void Howe leaves providing he is fit.

the thing is they both have talent but there is something wrong with both of them at the minute, l think they both need a couple of games down at Casey

I thought Jetta was doing really well tonight. Looked settled, made some tackles, gave some great runs (something Watts could learn from) at the ball. Had a horribly unfair free made against him and got injured, hence his sub. But overall, I'd take him in the side over Watts.

For me:

Out: Watts, Howe, Byrnes

In: Garland, Kent, Riley (depending on tomorrow's match).

Riley deserves a chance to stick it up Adelaide's wazoo after delisting him for being injured.

Huge improvement on last week. I'm not convinced he's good enough to be anything but a bit-player, but whilst he's putting in 110% and others are not, he deserves to hold his spot for now.

IMO he's the kind of player that we need to be able to shed if we want to progress up the ladder. He's not the only one, but at the same time I do not see him being a long term part of this club.

Can't believe how I feel about Watts and Howe tonight - both lacking any zip, zeal or confidence while other more limited players are surging ahead with confidence (M Jones, JKH, Pederson, Dunn). Both must be dropped on attitude and urgency. I understand why Roos keeps playing Byrnes but no longer needed as others do his job better.

OUT: Watts, Howe, Byrnes

IN: Garland, Kent and one player with pace..PLEASE.

I think it would be good for Paul Roos to drop both Jack Watts and Jeremy Howe, and tell them candidly why they're so toxic to our team right now. I would never take this approach if it were only one or the other of them, but dropping them both would create a bit of solidarity between them and stop them from feeling singled out or treated unfairly.

This way they could both work together on the weaknesses in their games, and push each other to get back into the side.

Watts - the less said the better

Howe - just gets shut down, I'd once again try him as a midfielder but Casey first

Byrnes - he gets games as he can run, but he can't do anything at AFL level

Terlich -too many turnovers and poor defensive efforts. I think he tires himself trying and is super hard at it but I've seen more than enough

Jetta - another who's hard at it but he just refuses to run to get the ball to drive from the backline. Small defenders have to take the game on or at least be an option

In: Clisby, Garland, Toumpas, Kent (if not fit Evans or Blease for sub), Riley

FB: Georgiou Garland Grimes

HB: Toumpas McDonald Clisby

C: Vince N. Jones M. Jones

HF: Bail Dawes Salem

FF: JKH Dunn Frawley

Foll: Jamar Viney Cross

Int; Riley Tyson Pedersen Kent

Was at the game today and agree about Howe and Watts.

What I can't believe us how Frawley is not being added to these two.

He was disinterested right from the first quarter, did not chase or man up at any stage and went half hearted for his marks.

He is another from the 186 day who needs to be gotten rid of.

We will never move forward as a team until the players who think it is their right to play for Melbourne and not a privilege are all gone.

On the other side of the coin you have less talented players giving their all for the jumper.

Nice to see Crossy speaking his mind after the game.

“We certainly had intent and pressure from most of the guys, which was a massive improvement from last week, but that’s the minimum standard that you have to have every week.

“It’s a tough game that we play and you can’t have any passengers any week, so that’s what was disappointing.”

Posted

No need for anything but the barest-essential changes.

Watts & Howe can't possibly stay in. Even if Jetta is injured and Georgiou gets given a holiday.

Their places are up for grabs depending on who does well tomorrow.

Possibilities are Garland, Clisby, Riley, Strauss, or even Blease, Tapscott or Gawn as outsiders.

Over to you guys.

Posted

Outs:

Watts - should have went after last week but definitely needs at least a month at Casey

Howe - the effort has been missing for the last two weeks (bar about 20 mins in last weeks second half)

Byrnes - we have better options

Terlich - can't fault his endeavour but the turnovers kill us

Ins:

Strauss/Clisby/Toumpas - 1 of these to either take Terlich's position down back or start as Sub and allow Salem to start the game

Kent - if fit comes in to play between HFF with rotations through the middle

Riley - another hardman required who can assist in the middle

Garland - no brainer if he's fit he is in for some poise down back

PLEASE out Watts and Byrnes PLEASE

don't bring them back I tile they dominate the VFL in the contested stuff not just getting easy kicks.

Don't bring them back at all and I am happy

Stay out of the team forever please.

Posted

BYRNES never to play for the MFC again, no matter how good he is at VFL,lay the kids, he is a joke and doesn't deserve to play for our. Lib fk off Byrnes, watts needs to be delisted it will be the biggest step forward our club can

Howe?? Love this guy, why has he been so quiet this year, injured?? Must be a reason. Needs to be fixed. Unseen

Why isn't anybody talking about Bail?

Watts, Terlich, Howe - I agree with what everyone is saying, but Bail was invisible.

Three changes are about all that are due in a loss that was not terrible.

Out: Bail, Watts, Georgiou (holiday).

In: Riley, Garland, Clisby.

Last chance: Howe, Byrnes, Terlich.

Want to show something to press for selection: Strauss, Blease, Tapscott.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
