ANZAC Eve Game

Featured Replies

A night game... Get home say late then up for a dawn service? Might keep a few away.

Good concept I guess but I'm not sure its viable.

“You’ve got to give some opportunities to these other clubs to get a few more people in the crowd.

“You look at our fixture this year for example, we’ve got seven interstate clubs as home games — I know we are playing bloody awful football and to some extent deserve the fixture we get — but that is not going to help rejuvenate the club financially."

ahahh. i love how honest and down the line PJ is.

BEMUSED Melbourne chief executive Peter Jackson has urged the AFL to rethink its dismissal of a proposed Anzac Day eve clash.

Jackson is adamant an annual night match between Richmond and the Demons on April 24 would prove successful and have no impact on the next day’s Collingwood-Essendon blockbuster.

“I don’t think anything on the night before will steal from the event of Anzac Day itself,” Jackson told the Herald Sun on Friday.

“I’d be staggered and I wouldn’t know why Collingwood and Essendon would be worried about it.

yeah i don't know what happened, i edited it out but.

I must have won the internet today and the internet gave itself to me as a prize, so i thought i would share it with you all.

I love the idea personally.

Being a Vet. I find it impossible to attend football on Anzac Day.

I have too many commitments to my RSL Club and Corp. / Unit mates.

But Anzac Eve solves a lot of problems.

I did ring our Membership Department to find out if there was any sort of Anzac Service for the Dees v Swans game tonight.

Only to be told that nothing officially has been organised, as that is all done by the AFL.

Can we scratch our Arse without having the AFL's permission.

I thought the Diggers of WW1 fought for our freedom.

It looks like we are still in the hands of a Dictator. (at least for 6 months more)

Edit Ps:- To any of you guys that did buy Anzac Badges from me on Thursday.

I must extend a warm thank you. We had a very successful day. Our boys who are doing things tough at the moment will

benefit from the sales immensley

Chippy, I know a few service men and I even have a Air Force cadet (last year) working for me and they are the same, they are so flat out that day that there is no way they could make the game.

But as said by another, could you be out til 11pm the night before?

All up tho I still think there is a market for this game. Vlad is just being a golf.

> Can we scratch our Arse without having the AFL's permission.

No, we can't.

It's ridiculous that Vlad and another club president have ridiculed this.

They should sod off to their next career and their misogynistic, racist and sexist breakfast radio show.

I think it's a great idea! (I'm still spewing that we lost the Anzac Day fixture! Wasn't THAT long ago that it was Melbourne vs Collingwood!)

1991 out at Waverley Cuthbertson kicked 7 for the 2nd week in a row and Bennett 5!

Suddenly Eddie gets a does of the Nimby's

really Ed? A very glass is half empty approach. A more reasoned one would be it ADDS to the build up, not detract from it.

You know I think Eddie may want to be careful taking on PJ... Hes a very good operator is JAcko ( so is Eddie for that matter ) and I can see a steady and deliberate and prolonged push by him (and MFC ) to get back to where we once were. More than just a bystander to this game

Eddy really only pays lip service to anything like equalisation or helping the smaller clubs. As soon as he actually might have to give up the slightest advantage he either ridicules the idea or wants it grossly watered down.

Always remember every single decision Eddie makes is either to further Colonwood at the expense of all other clubs, or increase the numbers in his bank account. He cozied up with Fox as soon as they got the rights so he could get his face on their coverage, and now his own weekly TV show. He even used it as a platform to get Colonwood their own weekly TV show. He doesn't even pretend to be impartial, constantly making commentary on players who defected to other clubs, while talking up his own.

He will use every opportunity he can to keep us in the pits and his club affluent in all respects. The push for equalization will amount to nothing with his (and the rest of his ilk) feigning support for proposals. And, most important of all, he uses his media presence to push his own agenda.

You got that right and I'm going to start again it starts with small things

You can't wear red or the lighter blue as your clash you have to wear white.

Why

Well red is a dark colour so all teams must have a light jumper and a dark jumper

But on Anzac day when it is a Pies home game they wear predominantly black and the Bombers wear their normal jumpers

We play Gold Coast at home and they can wear red

We play Meth Coast away and have to wear white

We play Meth Coast at home and they can wear the royal blue

We get home games at shocking times and against sides who don't draw a decent crowd. I know we have been bad for a few years but FFS at least give us the opportunity for an open playing field in regard to fixtures, if no Friday nights than a fair amount of Saturday Arvo/Night games at the G I would think

We should play Eddie's "Goodes King Kong" comments on the big screen at half time on the QB clash. Eddie can go and get [censored].

Haha just [censored] myself laughing, good one would be great but the ferals would probably think we were honouring him.

The Club must keep fighting for Stand Alone Games. There is no reason why a game cannot be played on Anzac Day eve.

32 young Demons were lost in combat.

Oh, I think we could go one better now.

how hideous. I remember Eddie as a Ch 10 journo with a very short temper...

Nothing has changed.

The fact you described him as a channel 10 journo proves a hell of a lot has changed.

not in his modus operandum

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
