Paul Roos on AFL360 every Monday

I would ban my kids from watching him if it wasn't for the fact they are already Sydney based lifelong die hard D's supporters.

It happened to me with Barass in the early '60's. I worshipped him on the Happy Hammond show on Saturday mornings when he did a weekly footy clinic. Became a die hard because of those bloody programs and here I am still waiting for the Holy Grail, just because I watched a Roos type on tv. Never again, I tell you, never again.

Guilty.

He is both dumb and inarticulate but why I have a soft spot for him is I don't see his ego/sense of self importance completely out of control as opposed to the likes of Denham and Barrett who both seem to think that the world waits impatiently for their every utterance. I have also seen Robbo say famous words that I can't recall any other journalist having ever spoken " yeah.. I got that one wrong".

Now there is damned with faint praise if ever I saw it!! :)

Robbo does love the game, he can be quite passionate about it. Unfortunately he is more like a hammer than a scalpel.

Watching him on 360 is akin to watching an Orangutan play guitar. Sometimes he gets the right note.

I do admire " I got that one wrong" however he should check facts from multiple sources, too much to expect from an Orangutan.

George Stone fine, same with Mathews and Allison. But what about Brad Miller and Greg Stafford both new to coaching. Jade Rawlings playing and coaching career combines for a winning percentage of about 25% I guess. Plus we have a former newsagent coaching our forward line. Dave Misson has been away from Roos at Sydney for years. Not to mention Roos himself has been out of elite coaching for a few years.

The Melbourne football department is a failing business just like Qantas. What would your opinion be if Qantas hired a new CEO on record money who despite some promising early signs goes for a holiday in peak management time and schedules himself some TV work.

I refuse to put away my skepticism until I see some real and consistent results.

I'm not sure I understand your double standards here "the Master", given that Ben Mathews was himself a newsagent less than a handful of years ago (after he left the Swans).

I'm the same. I know he's not the brightest spark. I know he's a terrible writer. I just don't really care. His passion for the game is unequalled amongst football journos and that appeals to me. Plus he seems to have his finger on the pulse, for better or worse, and he isn't as vindictive in how he chooses to report as that witch down the road.

Fine I'll say it.

Do not like this.

Throughout the period we were chasing Roos he said time and time again how busy and stressful an AFL coaching job is. Now he signs on and he's got extra time to do media work every week?

Yes we need to be in the public eye for exposure but we have to win games. That means a coach who isn't burnt out and who isn't having to get involved with too much media. Luckily Robbo is a complete light weight so won't ask too much tough questions and Gerard is pretty respectful to his guests. Also lucky Bomber is staying on (for now) so mainly they can both talk about their glory days and deflect from their teams. But overall I still dislike it.

I'm ok for him to contribute 10-13mins of discussion a week.

It's a shame Robbo is on 360. I like Whateley. but I just can't stand Robbo.

Does anyone here like him? He's both dumb and inarticulate. How on earth did he get the job?

I'm still scratching my head at him getting the 'Chief' position after Sheahan.

Couldn't have been a decent field....was probably six lengths in front with a furlong to go.

Mark Robinson is a testament to the failing journalism industry and the cratered standards of writing and general intelligence in the medium.

It is entirely abhorrent that he is a Head Football Writer of Australia's No.1 selling newspaper.

Behind font he is simply daft and unimaginative. In front of a camera he reminds us of the progress made during the evolution of our species.

But I am sure he is a nice bloke...

Evidently there has been less progress made than we initally thought.

Disappointingly personal.

Well, that has stuck with you hasn't it?

I took offence to the intimation I would have led my club to ruin.

I wouldn't say that to any Demon - even an anonymous one.

I suggest you move on.

Gee wiz.

Small mindedness in questioning this pissy role. Haven't we moved on since Terry did Talking Footy?

Our sponsors must love the fact that Roos will show up to this show, I assume, wearing Melbourne's uniform.

If Allison, or Miller are on Fox, good for them. But if Roos is on, I won't miss it. Full stop.

Andrew Demetriou made nearly 3.8 million last year; and this clown belly-laughed at a dwarf with a burning buttock! Mark Neeld earnt 800,000 last year when you really think about it.

The football world will soon work out that the 1.5 million Roos will earn this year, will be well-earnt, and almost under-payment for the hardest job in league football.

As I imagine the AFL360 role for Roos was decided some time ago, but only announced recently, it may actually have been a key factor in any sponsorship deals the club has made, announced of unannounced, as it adds serious value for the sponsor.

Not only in terms of being shown on fox, but also the video highlights that accompany the now obligatory HS internet articles recapping the Monday night footy shows.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
