I agree but why does it have to be either/or? It could so easily be "both". If 5 people make the decision not to go because it clashes with the opening night that $1,000 lost.

After all, I could stay at home, save $200, watch the opening game of the season and then go to the website and most likely see all the presentations by the coaches/players anyway.

I'm going but I don't understand the scheduling.

What date/time would you suggest as an alternative?

Might be drawing a long bow here but heard on the news last night about a German supermarket chain called lidl is just about to enter Australia. They are related to aldi. Some one on here said that the new sponsor was looking for branding in aus so I thought this might be a connection.

Seems a very strange night to hold the commencement dinner. Didn't they look at the fixture - it clashes with the first match of the season.

You're doing it wrong.

Very strange night for the AFL to schedule Pies v Dockers. Didn't they look at the at the foundation club's social calendar!

But if 30 people could go because it is a Friday night instead of the Thursday then we are up.

I'll be there because it's a Friday but I couldn't attend if it was on a Thursday, any Thursday, so I'm happy with the date.

So everyone can blame u its on Friday night then Robbie!!!!!

Some in demonland will be happy now as they can blame someone!

Let us know how it goes.

I have no idea what the big deal is here!

Can someone explain to me why someone who would go to a $200 MFC year commencement dinner would not go because it is on a night when the Pies and Dockers play a game at the dome of death?

I would suggest that no MFC supporter who can afford the $200 would be put off by this date.

Attending a Collingwood "Home" Game only makes them stronger. Why would any MFC Member want that!!

I hope one day that the MFC is strong enough to reclaim the Ponsford Stand Social Club for our own...

That can only happen one way.

Life Long hater BBO

I realize i am getting older when i read younger Demons "don't mind Collingwood & enjoy watching them play"

These kids never had to endure a day at Victoria Park.

If Young Demon supporters Hate the Filth when i am ready to shuffle off i will be sated :)

I used to go to school in Clifton Hill and fight the local filth. Must admit, I only won a couple.

Ahhh [censored] park, I mean Victoria Park, the only time I have ever feared for my life.

I once took an american visitor there (had a friend's two spare memberships - yes I have a friend who's a member of the floreat pica whatever) and took him into their members' stand. A group of kindly looking elderly women told me if I opened my mouth again I'd get a knitting needle in the eye - and so would the 'septic'. And that was during the reserves.

True story.

According to Wikipedia Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG is a German global discount supermarket chain that operates over 10,000 stores across Europe. It belongs to the holding company Schwarz (named after its founder) Gruppe and is the chief competitor of the similar German discount chain Aldi. The company's colours are red, blue and yellow and a move into the Australian market is definitely on the drawing board.

There's plenty of synergy there for the MFC if it's that Company.

I believe it, they should have bulldozed that place and salted the earth.

You do realize the MFC helped finance the building of Victoria Park back in the day.

It was built on a slag pit.

Fitting i always thought. :)

Hopefully they don't run into anybody from Opel at a German business function.

I'd be thankful of any extra sponsorship, and support any decision the club made - but if I had my druthers, it wouldn't be Lidl. They make "sell em cheap, stack em high" stores look like Harrods.

I asked my 2nd wife if she would like to celebrate a very major milestone anniversary by going to the Commencement dinner.

%$#&&^%$@*&%$$!^%&.

I guess I'm not going. This is going to cost me big big time.

Why don't I just shut the F \$$k up.
