Do you actually know what Sambo is? How is it in any way racist to have a username referring to a form of martial art? For all we know he is a practitioner.

Do you?

Apart from its martial arts meaning it has this connotation according to Wikipedia -

From Wikipedia -

Sambo is a term for a person with African heritage and, in some countries, also mixed with Native American heritage (see zambo).

Formerly, it had the technical meaning of a person having a mixture of black and white ancestry, more black than white — contrast with mulatto, quadroon, octoroon etc. In modern British English, the term "Sambo" is considered offensive.

Mate went to the Saints intraclub yesterday and it's amazing how similar his view of proceedings was to many of the ones we hear about the Melbourne session. Promising young blokes. Players missing through injury. Scrappy footy. Rusty players. Some with poor disposal etc.

On top of that he wasn't happy with the venue at Seaford. No amenities, seating or shade in the heat. Parking impossible. The local bowls club charged $4 for parking and traffic a shambles on the way out. I joked with him that it was all Cameron Schwab's fault. He's worried about the season ahead and even round 1 although he's usually pretty gung-ho.

And to think they didn't want Casey Fields.

Not so obscure in parts of the USA where it's been a derogatory term applied for over 150 years. I remember reading stories in my school days (not as long ago as 150 yrs) making those sort of references. Thankfully, society is moving on from that but the reference would still offend people in many places.

a lot of people are saying that Salem has put on a lot of size since he was drafted

He was only drafted just over 2 months ago, so not sure how he could have put on that much

I've been to a few training sessions before Christmas, and I noted how small bodied he was.

Apparently he lost 6kgs since starting preseason and it was noted as a concern.

After being medically assessed, he was found to have a thyroid issue which was rectified and the improved results were immediate.

Hence the dramatic improvement in body shape so quickly.

Unfortunately I had to leave after the first 20 minute third. I left via the pedestrian bridge towards the Yarra / Bot gardens and passed Mick Malthouse who was crossing towards Gosch's... think he lives in East Melbourne though so may just have been going for a run.

So one of us sees a martial art and the other an obscure term for a person of a particular mixed heritage. I know the conclusion I draw from that.

Can also be a term of endearment for someone whose name is Samuel as well as a, sometimes most-enjoyable, edible concoction involving two slices of bread.

Sometimes PC gets out of control.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
