MFC Captaincy Announcement at 2.45pm Wednesday

Featured Replies

I was at the team photo shoot yesterday.

Grimes and Jones sitting proudly either side of Roos, read into that what you will.

Clark and Frawley either side of them but I don't expect to see a third captain, despite what happened at the Swans.

Done and Dusted i'd say on the basis of this information.

Grimes and Jones co captains

Clark and Frawley Vice captains

Good result only improved if they announce Frawley has a new contract.

If Clark is vice captain I guess he really is fit and ready to play.

Team isn't strong enough for one captain to handle the pressure. Jones and Grimes are a natural choice.

Wouldn't like Grimes to be sole captain handling big losses each week. Needs to be shared.

I will take a stab from left field and say Shannon Byrnes, hes the oldest and has premiership experience

That must be a big knife u r having a stab in the dark with hh!

Hopefully it's plastic and u don't hurt yourself !

What big losses each week?

My guess:

Captains: Grimes and Jones.

Vice Captains: Clark and Trengove

Others in the Leadership group: Garland, Cross, and Frawley (potentially also Dawes).

And Pedersen in the leadership group.

Played in more wins at North in 2011 then Melbourne did under the Neeld/Craig glory years.

Can't be N.Jones surely.

Grimes or Garland perhaps...but no standout

Roos might pick 4 frigging captains...who knows.

Viney must be in the LG IMO. If not, it aint a LG in my book.

What big losses each week?

Surely you understand the concept Redleg

You have been living it for the last two years!

My Prediction: Jones and Grimes Co Captains ,Garland Vice Captain
My desire: Jones Captain, Garland Vice Captain

Interesting announcement,

Just talking to a mate who is dees fan.

He said who cares?

I ask what is behind that attitude?

I only care about improvement and winning I don't care who fills. the roles!

Why not jones?

When i heard we would be going for co-captains i thought they would be Donald and David Cockatoo-Collins.

Glory days....

Trolling surely...

It's HH, so it's entirely possible that he's serious.

Jones is a lock, 2 years too late, but better than nothing.

If Jones was made captain before he was even an established AFL player yet alone a good one and before he stepped up his leadership he wouldn't have been a good captain and probably not the player he is now. But now I have faith in him as I do Grimes.

MFC site says Jones and Grimes...

Grimes and Jones. Congratulations guys

Frawley, Trengove, Garland, Clark round out leadership group

For mine...

Captains: Grimes, Jones

Vice: Garland, Dawes, Cross

Rest of LG: Frawley, Clark, Trengove

You got the names right (minus cross/Dawes)

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
