Firstly, please merge this into another thread if we have one going.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2013-10-28/season-review-matt-jones

Really interesting point of view on his year, pretty open and honest.

Do we think Matt Jones is nearly at his football ceiling in 2013? Or could this guy really develop into a weapon for us?

What is he lacking to become B+ or A?

- Speed?

- Outside Skill?

a lot here don't have him in their best 22. But I rate him.

As you said has the height we are after, the pace as well, Plays an outside game but can also run through the middle which is handy.

His kicking is not even that bad as people make out to be. Nicholson, Bail, Jetta, Trengove, McDonald are ahead of him in terms of poor disposal.

I think Matt Jones will struggle to get a spot in an AFL standard midfield. I would like to see Roos trial Jones at half back, because I am not sold on Clisby, Strauss, Blease, Terlich, Toumpas, Jetta etc as small defenders and we have two positions to fill.

Until others surpass him, he will be in the midfield rotation of the MFC.

We put lines through players out of some desire to reject reality - he was our second best midfielder last year.

He has all the opportunities in the world to work on his kicking, his decision making, and his ability to spread and find the footy.

And if he gets better in those areas then there will be a 'beyond' for him and it might be a while before we 'evolve' past him.

One of the only good stories this year, I think there's ample upside in Matt Jones considering he shone when so much around him was s**t. As such, I expect him to improve in pretty much every area, and hold his spot in the best 22 well.

I think Jones would be best served to try and find another string to add to his bow.

He has the body and skills to play other positions, whether that is the wing or back flank.

Jones won't make it solely as a midfielder IMO, but if he can become more versatile then he can still be handy.

I think he will have a year like Magner did this year but won't get delisted.

I doubt Matt Jones will ever become an All Australian but so long as he does his job on the field then i am more than happy with his value to the team

Peoples expectations of having a match winner in all positions on the ground are unrealistic

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
