Well I think the HB's have it a win by a landslide.

Not a lot more can be said.

The tribe has spoken

So, I guess that as soon as we have a game in which we "don't do so well", and where he is played anywhere other than HB, the masses will be calling for that spud / dud / etc Roos' blood?

Reads the play the best when across half back and can use that to provide better on-field leadership. Getting smashed in the middle takes away both these elements.

Steve can we have the Mustang back please?

It's in getting those rear tyres replaced mate.

I think his best footy is played in the backline, can go into the midfield.. But is too slow, has a calm head under pressure definately backline.

I have no doubt he will be played on the backline.

Maybe it's Brian Royal's fault but he really appeared to have much less of an impact in the midfield than he did off the back flank.

And the more Grimes can impact a game, the better the team is for it.

Yes, must be Brian Royal's fault, everything else is according to some on here

He's going nowhere with that kicking though.

You never know, AF. With better spread and running patterns within a functioning game plan he just might have a few more options to kick to and won't be so rushed.

I realise he sprayed quite a few this past season but he's not just an outright terrible kick.

Agree with the first bit, mate. I'm hopeful that with Roos and a more definable game plan, he'll be more composed with ball in hand.

I'd disagree on spraying kicks in just the past season. IMO he's never been a good kick and heavily overrated on Demonland. He is a good reader of the play though.

Whilst he has all the traits of a backline general and this is where he has played his best footy, memories of a praccy match against the Bombers at Princes Park under Bailey where he lined up in the middle after half time and smashed out 5 clearances in as many minutes keeps me optimistic that we may have midfielder yet.

Both Grimesy and Trenners remind me of Bartel in different ways, slow, not athletic, up and under kicking style but strong tackles, courageous marking and heart. If one of em makes it to Bartel's level I'll be happy.

If we need mature bodies in the middle he is going to play there.

No use whingeing about him being an out of place HBF if our midfield requires him.

And remember, HBF is the easiest position to play in the world ever.

A trained monkey can do it.

Dunn can nearly do it.

Just because youre a back flanker doesnt mean you dont spend time in the guts. This is the fallacy of much argued here. Grimes best footy is instigated off the half back line. he IS one of those types that thinks and follows the dictates of his intelligence and follows the ball through the middle . He sees out his own instigations. He is muted and stifled for this flair and inventiveness when put in the guts to start with.

In the modern game everyone from the half forward line to the half back line gets involved with "the middle' but Grimes best work isnt as a mid. So why make him one

That being the case rpfc it does not say much about Grimes ability.

Gets by as a HBF but struggles outside of that spot?

Ditto. I thought I'd throw it in there just in case.

Maybe we had our crumbing forward right in front of us all along.

Or maybe not.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
