Roos tongue tied?

Featured Replies

Wow.

Just, wow.

I'm not paying to read that crap but in fairness to Neeld Jack Watts did need to lift.

Notice Roos' comments on Watts. I haven't really heard him praise Watts at all. Just talks about his talent and finding a role for him and sticking with him. Very even and consistent but behind closed doors I think Watts will be given equal parts carrot and stick and that's what he needs.

I've actually noticed how little we have heard from him since his appointment and I've loved it.

Me too.

You really can't win. Supporters complain about words being cheap during the off season, so we get a coach who is letting his actions at the trade table do the talking, and threads like this appear.

What exactly does he need to say that wasn't said at his presser, or by Mahoney?

Crazy stuff. Let him get on with it. There'll be plenty of time for comforting words.

Agreed, behind closed doors being the key. It's plain batty to be speaking about a player in those terms publicly when you've just started in the job.

We do need memberships so he will have to start selling the vision at some stage!!

Patience, Hood, patience.

He is the coach, not the recruiting manager (or whatever the title).

Let him speak when training starts.

I don't want to hear a thing from Roos.................and I don't want to hear a thing from the players.

Fine hearing from Mahoney regarding the trades, but keep it low key.

Under promise, over deliver.

The tripe served up by the coaches and players over the last few years has been deplorable.

Players telling us all year they were training well..................my god!

I don't miss not having that deceptively soothing fuzzy feeling of warm amber liquid swirling inside my ears.

We do need memberships so he will have to start selling the vision at some stage!!

Wins will do that. Warm fuzzy BS just sucks the life out of us. I believe nothing coming out of this club right now. I can't. For the best part of a decade I've been sold Florida swampland and I have no faith left.

Play with G&D. Win some games. That's the only message I'm going to be looking for or listening to.

At least we won't get..."I didn't see the coming".

Now I'm not being critical as I've got as big a man crush on the messiah as anybody on this forum BUT..........

It would have been nice to hear something from our new coach directed to the long suffering supporters and members. Just a word to the faithful cautioning unrealistic expectations, it's going to take time, the building blocks etc etc Apart from the initial pressers directed to the adoring public at large I haven't heard a thing. Not even our intrepid reporter Matty Burgan has managed to extract anything.

I don't want any cautioning of unrealistic expectations. We should have lofty expectations and aspirations as a football club. It's part of the reason we've been such an insipid organisation for so many decades. We don't aim high enough and are too happy to settle for second best.

I can't believe you would prefer that, than a bloke coming in and acting with extreme professionalism. He's rolled up his sleeves and gone about his business quietly, but proficiently.

I know it's been a few decades since we've had a premiership winning coach at the helm of the club, but he doesn't need to assure anyone. He has the history and league-wide respect to back him up.

The less i hear the better....Just want to roll up first Round and see a cracking game of Footy

Sing the song....

I have bought my memberships and sent $$$ to the future fund, i hope many others do the same.

PJ got us a coach not a salesman.

Haven't heard from any coach .....presser if they have been given the main gig but can't recall hearing any coach speak. Don't need to hear him do we......he will be busy with recruiting, off field appointments & most importantly assessing our players. In fact doing exactly what he was employed to do. I have no interest hearing meaningless platitudes......it is only October !

Doesn't he actually start getting paid in November?

I don't think he is actually coach yet...

It's too early to come out with statements about how good/bad we might be and put frankly, I don't want to hear anything either. The last two years were nothing but spin about how we should be bullish and then excuses about 'it is what it is'.

Of course he is. His names been on the payroll for a month

Time and a place. I don't see any other coaches throwing press conferences in October either. They are letting the trades do the talking and I'm liking what I'm hearing.

quite

its the time of the recruiters not the coaches

Only matches the tripe served up by some of the supporters

They were training well, watched quite a few, hence the frustration at not being able to translate it to match day

Also why the list is not as bad as everybody seems to think

Yes, enjoying the silence and hoping that everything behind the scenes click. I'm enjoying the recruiting. but getting a little more excited about our off field team. when you look at the characters in PJ Roos TV and the blend on the board, if this team create a dynamic environment then look out. In the meantime, I'm content and enjoying the break from the tension.

Of course he is. His names been on the payroll for a month

Wrong. He doesn't start in an official capacity until 1 November. He has had other contractual obligations stopping him from officially starting till then. That hasn't stopped him from being involved eg the trip to Perth reported in the papers but not in an official capacity. So he can't comment officially until his job starts on 1 Nov.

Wtf has been sitting in the stands, doing that coachy thing of late ? a doppelganger ?

Hes listed as senior coach. everything else is accounting semantics.

Paul Roos is not a spruiker

He is a deliverer of results

And results will bring us members in droves

Just a word to the faithful cautioning unrealistic expectations

Silence is golden. BS is just that.

You want him to come out quickly and say we're still gonna be no good?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

  • POSTGAME: Richmond

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
