AFL NATIONAL DRAFT - Pick 9

Featured Replies

There's 3 or 4 good'ns .We cant really lose. :)

Beelzebub, if there's a way to pick a loser we will find it. Having said that, I agree with your sentiment. The only player in that top bracket I don't warm to is Salem. In terms of preference, I'm leaning towards Lennon.

Bet your bottom dollar itll be sheed or freeman

FREEMAN!!! Just his name sounds like he could win a Brownlow hahahahhaha!

3 votes N. Freeman

Ladies and Gentleman the 2017 Brownlow medalist, Nathan Freeman from the Melbourne Demons

Maybe once i'd have thought this also. I think we're turning that corner. In the past we've had a particular pick and then selected someone from behind us in the next row !!

All they have to do is hit the dartboard this time. Even I could pick a gem with 9 !! lol

I hope so there's something about Sheed I like. If Freeman's gone by pick 9 I really hope we take Sheed. May not have much "X factor" or "potential" or "athletic prowess" but just looks like a quality "footballer" with an appetite for the contest and who can kick a goal. The only thing more important than quality midfielders in today's footy is quality midfielders who can kick goals something we have severely lacked.

I've gone full circle from a couple of months ago, and yes, it's off limited information, but I hope we get one of Sheed or Salem.

If it's Freeman I won't be disappointed, as they obviously rate him and his assets are exciting, but the other two seem rock solid players; and I like the fact they're lefties to join our growing stable.

Freeman makes me the most nervous of our possible picks. Also wouldn't be disappointed but my visions of Luke Shuey occasionally get clouded with Kane Tenace (just occasionally)

Theres half a dozen really good players at or around our pick. Only the effect of others teams selection will really have a bearing in the end.

We can only have one . Concensus seems to be a swirling devil , today this bloke, tomorrow another. Bit like a lolly shop...oooh to have the licorice or the gob stopper or the...or the....maybe this one....no...that one !!

To be honest and without meaning to be flippant i'm not fussed who we end up getting. He'll bring something to the mix and that's what it will be now, about the mix. We aren't relying on some uberkid to save the day it's just another cog in a machine. Roos way is not for one player to carry the weight alone its for all to work as a group.

Roos is about building synergies. He doesnt go for the shiny ones, just those with substance. I am looking forward to the selectoin , just not fazed either way really now about it.

I am all for taking Freeman. What we need most now are midfielders who not just get the footy in close but also SPREAD !! I cannot emphasize enough how much we need our footballers to spread to receive the ball. That has been the most obvious way that our disposal differentials are so far apart from the other clubs. It's all good to recruit mids to get the football from the centre square but we need our players to run and spread.

I feel the same way 'bb', and I have faith we now have the people to make the right selection. There are a lot of good kids around this mark and I'm interested to see who we get.

Agree with this, from all the highlights I have seen Salem has impressed me most of those who should be available at Pick 9, seemed to run hard to provide options and did not stop after feeding off. He would continue running to receive. Sheed is a safe pick and will be a solid player who will play 150-200 games. No superstar but just a solid honest midfielder which all teams need

In the past we have tended to 'snatch defeat from the jaws of victory' in too many ways on too many occasions. However, draft selection is an 'art' requiring a significant degree of luck in addition to knowing what you are looking for. Most fans of all footy clubs would believe this.

After many years of disappointment on the field and also with draft selections, I am pinning my hopes on Roos et al turning things around. I hope so, as I would like to see us at least competitive again before I'm confined to sitting non compos mentis in a chair in a 'home', and I'm afraid those days are closer than I care to think.

But I must acknowledge that as a kid in the 1950s/60s I had some great footy years.

As much as I like him, I've reconciled that Lennon is a risk when we need a pure explosive mid for balance.

It's Freeman for me, from Salem and then Sheed.

Comparisons to Tenace are off the mark.

He could run all day, but was outside and couldn't find or kick the footy.

Freeman will be an inside mid who gets to the drop of the ball and uses his athleticism to get to one stoppage after another, then break out of congestion, not line-breaking on the HBF.

Scharenberg's potential availability is a game-changer. I'd be surprised to see him slide that far.

Billings no chance to get to us.

I want nothing to do with a project like Bontempelli.

I think Aish will slide, but not far enough for us to have the chance.

Salem to be the safest bet, but Freeman more suited to our needs.

Salem is a very poor mans Vlastuin.

I hope we don't take Salem, thought he looked very average in the u18's and I reckon he will be a flop for whoever gets him

I don't want him either, but he won't be a flop, i would rather take FREEMAN!, Scharenberg, Lennon or Sheed.

Freeman is my obvious number 1 choice.

Scharenberg is the smokey if he slides.

Depends if they want a half back who could develop into a midfielder, or a burst player like Freeman who has Dangerfield like qualities, or a great little rover in Sheed.

All about what they think we need.

I'm with you BB I don't mind who we get because there's a few good'ns around, Acres, Sheed, Freeman and Salem should all be there.

Something about Toumpas and Salem being the final link in a chain fills me with warmth and comfort.

For those who are interested, MFC is running a 'Predict the Pick' Competition. If you guess who we take at pick 9 correctly, you go in the draw to win an MFC guernsey signed by that player.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
