Haha, i question anyones knowledge on AFL who suggests Swallow's output has been better than Adams' so far in their careers.

Yeah, I would think Swallow hasn't lived up to expectations to date. Whether that is injury or other reasons I don't really know but his VFL year was pretty special and that has yet to translate to AFL.

I agree rjay. I'd think Adams is the main key.

If we can manage Swallow as well, then good.

Please indulge the super optimistic side of me for one minute. Let's say we use our first two round picks and a possible priority pick and manage to convince Swallow and Adams to come to club. Then we spend up big a get either Thomas or Stokes as a free agent. We round out our incredible trade period by signing the delisted Cross. So come 2014 our midfield has added four quality players and we add a fit Clark and Dawes to an upgraded Hogan and an injury free Trengove and a rejuvenated Watts. At what point do we start talking up finals?

Pants we might have to start early with your paperclip approach if we want to snare Ablett, Dangerfield and Cotchin as well. Then we might start talking about 25 - 0.

I'm pretty sure I can turn pick 107 into Ablett if you give me enough transactions.

As for finals, our 22 would look something like this under your (wildly optimistic, even by my standards) scenario:

B: Garland Frawley Terlich

HB: Grimes McDonald Kent

C: Swallow Jones Trengove

HF: Stokes Dawes Sylvia

F: Hogan Clark Watts

R: Jamar Adams Viney

I: Howe Mckenzie Toumpas Cross

It's nice to actually look at a team with a potentially functional midfield. I can actually ask questions like 'Is our forward line too top heavy and will they be able to give enough chase?' At the moment it's tough to even wonder about forward line nuances because the ball never gets down there.

Anyway, if you can make those personnel moves happen, that'd be great. Thanks, pantaloons.

I'll see what I can do. I quite like your 22 but we're still an elite kick off the half back line away from finals footy in 2014. Can you devise a plan to deliver Hodge?

Not unrealistic, some smart trading + receiving a priority pick our team could quite easily resemble something like this.

Swap Kent & Watts around and the team looks even better. ;)

Watts can be the qtr back, a bit of guidance & confidence and he can improve out of sight, will never be tough like Hodge but can definately be elite off half back. Grimes is an option also, put him at half back & leave him there.

I was a little tongue and cheek with the Hodge call. If we can nab Swallow and Adams I would be over the moon.

What trades I think will happen

Pick 3 for David Swallow

Pick 1 for Matt Rosa and Andrew Gaff

Jake Spencer, 2nd round pick and pick 19 for Taylor Adams

How I think the team next year in round 1 will look (most likely going to be a Sunday).

Back: Lynden Dunn, James Frawley, Tom McDonald

Halfbacks: Dean Terlich, Colin Garland, Jack Grimes

Midfield: David Swallow, Jack Trengove, Matt Rosa

Half forwards: Jeremy Howe, Mitch Clark, Jack Watts

Forwards: Jack Fitzpatrick, Jesse Hogan, Colin Sylvia

Followers: Mark Jamar, Nathan Jones, Jack Viney

Interchange: Chris Dawes, Matt Jones, Max Gawn, Andrew Gaff, Jimmy Toumpas, Taylor Adams

Sub: Dean Kent

Emergencies: Rory Taggert, Daniel Cross, Darren Jolly.

Hodge? I'm going to leave it in Grimes is Great's capable hands. I like Watts up forward, but he is a great kick. I just assumed the 'one position' Roos talked about was up forward but who knows.

Roos mentioned he'd have Watts on the wing for Round 1, during his article in the paper back in July. This is where Watts will play.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
