Disagree WJ.

You get cred by standing up for yourself, not by hiding and whimpering in the corner and saying "when I get big and strong I will get you back".

The MFC didn't start these attacks, but if we want to have cred we should give it back.

You will note I am only talking about those clubs who have attacked us, not the AFL ( our buddies).

Seriously, what would Eddie, Newbold, Sticks, Brayshaw, etc do if someone had a go at them. They would have a go back.

If we are to be taken seriously by the competition it may be time to act like an equal partner.

the difference between Cale Morton starting his career & Jack Trengove starting his. both kids, one has a crack.

It's interesting that clubs are running the line about our PP along the lines of "look where that has got them now" or "it hasn't helped them previously, so why give them another".

So what are they trying to say? Would they like us not to be given one because that will in fact help us, and so we will have a better chance to beat their team in the future?

If giving us priority picks and having high draft picks has seen us fall to be easy beats of the competetion, then I would have thought the other clubs would have no problem with getting another one.

They should just come out and say "We don't want Melbourne to have a PP, because it may in fact help them to be a better team than ours"

That is why clubs should have no say in this matter. Its all about self interest.

Now is the time to stand up.

It started yesterday.

In the future i would love to see the MFC take back our Ponsford Stand from the Filth.

Not be given it. Buy them out.

If it ever happens i will die a happy man.

again eddie was the visionary... I think a bit like that as well. but I don't have any business experience or real interest in making money. I'm more interested in helping good community ideas come to fruition.

obviously Eddie was way onto the idea of the Glasshouse Homebase for the Pies, & the proximity of the Ponsford stand to his Homebase. an easy stroll across the rail-yards to home base for all sorts of Pie Celebrations.

once you let them in, good luck getting them out.

this is why we need to get our Homebase built Overseeing our training ground... we can catch our supporters on the way to games as a meetup,,, & again on the way home via the Train Station.

a regular meeting point that is Ours.... not a Rental arrangement. a Homebase.

I think you're confusing yourself as to who the 'public' really is. Sure, the AFL doesn't often act in the manner of the 0.5% of fans who are consumed by the game enough to regularly post on forums like this or bigfooty, but those fans don't represent the wider public.

Everything the AFL does is to serve the 'common denominator' footy fan who will attend a few games and watch a whole bunch of footy on TV. The interchange cap is designed to make the game more enjoyable for casual fans. The fixture is designed to appeal to casual fans. There are orders of magnitude more of this kind of footy fan - who don't care about the politics or machinations, and just want to watch footy - than there are people campaigning for perfect parity across the competition.

So then what's the problem? If the same 0.5 percent are complaining about Melbourne getting a priority pick, then who cares what they think? The average footy punter won't give a toss and the AFL can do what it wants.

If what you're calling "the public" (aka the silent minority) don't really care about anything other than the on-field product, then anything outside that domain is not worth involving them in anyway.

Either way, Melbourne's best interests are served by conducting a discourse with the AFL alone, and not pandering to anyone other than Demetriou and co.

If North or any other club had the same record as us they would be screaming for a PP and rightly so; we are not going to be competitive unless we get an injection of talent.

I think this has more to do with clubs not wanting others getting into the tanking issue again and spending a protracted time at the bottom collecting number one draft picks.

Bought your membership yet DL???

The Ponsford should be ours on matchday.

I am not talking about your Grand Training Base Social Club.

Stop incorporating it in every answer you post here.

It exists in your head only!!!

I have read a stack of posts on here and I am rarely compelled to make comment. I simply want to add that I completely agree with you Redleg. One of the best statement ever made on Demonland!

I'm absolutely baffled that these clubs are airing out their concern in a public forum, now I know how Essendon felt!

It's bad presidency to involve yourself in the business of other clubs, it's not a good trait and I'm surprised these guys don't know better.

Opposition sides are voicing their concern before the fact - because they know it will look too obvious after we get a PP, it's really pathetic.

Eddie needs to pull his head in and stop pedaling his own club agenda on every issue, Newbold needs to worry about a finals campaign and the Scott twins can't be taken seriously because they speak on behalf of each other...

As a president though, Newbold irritates me most because he raves on about equality - yet everything he says flies in the face of equality.

not yet WYL I haven't, but as I said, If Roosy signs on, I'll buy a membership as a donation.

The Ponsford stand 'Level 2', is mostly closed Now, these days to General admissions, & is usually reserved out to other clubs on matchdays. even on our homegames... one of my biggest disappointments with the changes since the NorthernStand was built...

We had no Idea what the new stand would deliver to regular footy punters, when it was planned.... The Melbourne supporters lost all contact with the players, thru loss of access to the matchday rooms, & the players race... a real slap in the face to Melbourne supporters. ripped off our home game privileges. just another wedge.

can we have a thread , ,,,, can MFC get 40,000 in 2014

It's great that other clubs are sooking about the Dees.

We got a high profile coach, we will get the pp and are getting $$$$$ from the AFL cause we could manage ourselves properly.

Who wouldn't be annoyed at that.

I couldn't give a rats what other clubs think.

Wait till we can be competitive on the park then it will only get worse.

BRING IT ON

I forgot to say that we should tell Eddie to shut up about us and worry about his 6 day break this week.

He got his wish. Collingwood have a significantly larger break than they thought they would.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
