That could be said for many other players, hardtack. Neeld recruited for his paltry game plan and only played players he thought could execute it - Jack Fitzpatrick missing out for instance.

I think players like Jetta and Davis have more chance of coming good under the right guidance. Sellar for mine needs to make way for another midfielder.

Well, I guess all will be revealed over the coming weeks. I'm not too fussed either way, but I would fell a little disappointed if Jetta was moved on.

    I think it will all depend on who the coach is, someone with runs on the board like Roos will probably not feel the need to slash and burn like a newer coach. I get the impression that Roos would have taken stock of the list and might make minimal changes this year, and see what he can get out of players.

    For mine, and I'm not fully aware of the contract status, I see the following delistments: Gillies, Davis, Tynan, along with the 3 retirements, that make's 6 (senior list). Hogan comes in so we look at 5 coming in.

    I can't see Magner or Couch being upgraded so they go, along with the injured Strak. Clisby stays on the rookie list and we get 3 new guys on there.

    I think that you have just about pinned it. Your scenario seems logical and the only question is whether they want to retain Sellar for depth however I suspect that you may be on the mark as a spot on the list may be more valuable in a rebuild. Not sure how many years jamar has left in him either, especially with Spencer and Gawn in the wings?

I see Sellar as being a little like Jesse White and maybe worth persisting with. And after watching Jetta on Sunday, I think he still shows some promise.

    Couch and Magner are rookies and Bail is contracted. If by the second Tynan you mean Taggert you are creating 8 spots.

    I kind of agree but I think no matter who comes on we need to get rid of our dead wood.

    I would add Sellar and Nicho to that list and upgrade Clisby so that leaves 6 spots. (would rather get rid of Nicho than Tynan - if there isn't enough draft talent)

    I would rather have a late draft prospect than Sellar (look at McDonald or Garland)

    I would like to snag Jurrah, Garrlett and posibly Mav Wellar (or others) would they be through rookie draft or PSD?

    While he's been ordinary this year, I'm pretty confident Tapscott will survive. Bail, Nicho, and Tynan are probably 50-50s, depending on who's available in the draft/free agency?

    I feel sorry for Davis. Earned his spot in the firsts after consistent efforts in defence for Casey.

    When he's promoted, it's into the forward line. That would have been difficult for any young defender. I don't know whether he's up to AFL standard as a defender. Neither do our selectors.

    No, that was just full of errors... it was getting late and I was watching my Akta-vite warming on the stove and adjusting my incontinence pad in preparation for a comfortable night's sleep.

    Though I think Jetta's position in the team is in jeopardy, he seems to have been winning more of the ball recently (particularly in Casey) and we saw how good he could be in a couple of situations on the weekend. That run he took through the middle, using some good evasive skills, was just great to watch. He may also have a better chance of being retained with Davey and Rodan retiring as he becomes the only real small forward/defender who can go through the midfield with skills that in some small way replicate what those two provided. Not to mention that he has had a lot of injuries over the years and has struggled to get a consistent run in the firsts thanks to those.

    I can't see Gillies being retained, nor Couch and Magner (as they have to be promoted to the senior list this year, or released I believe), with Tynan and Davis being the other two I think could be at risk. I think Sellar has showed enough to be a depth player and I would have him ahead of Davis and Gillies.

    It'll be interesting to see what happens, but regardless, I'm happy to wait until after a head coach is appointed.

    Disagree re: Sellar. I don't think he's shown close to enough. Given that we already have Pedersen as one depth player, if we're going to keep another tall for depth, I'd actually rather keep Davis for his potential than Sellar, who is just far too slow to hold down a regular position anywhere.

    I think you'll find that the club is taking a different approach when it come to the development of players at VFL level. Taggert and Tynan played VFL all year with Taggert having some standout games but still being made to work hard and play consistently well for the Scorps.

    When Craig was was coaching Adelaide he would do the same thing. Players really had to earn their games by playing VFL for quite some time before given a taste.

    Whether or not that means Taggert and Tynan will stay, I'm not sure. I definitely believe that Taggert has more to offer than Tynan and I'd like to see him kept on the list.

    Don't believe that just because he hasn't played one game at AFL level, it means he is another Lucas Cook.

    The MFC need to be able to develop players at Casey and get them playing solid, consistent and confident football before blooding them, it's all part of the process of player development. We know we have done the complete opposite in the past. Giving youngsters games without instilling some of these necessary skills.

    With that in mind I'd want to delist the following over the next two years:

    Jetta

    Sellar

    Bail

    Magner

    Couch

    Davis

    Byrnes

    Gillies

    Tynan

    Nicholson

    Pederson

    I want to trade out the following over the next two years:

    Dunn

    Jamar

    Watts

    Sylvia (FA)

    Hopefully by 2014 we have a big injection of quality young players, a few more mature recruits and some handy free agents.

    With Roos and co we should be on our way to really developing a mentally strong and talented list of players. Most of the cancerous types will be gone.

    Another way to come about this is to list who you would want to keep .....then order who's left .

    We have three leaving. Id think we'd want to churn a dozen players so that leaves 9 to move on whether by trade or door.

    Depends, but probably yes is the answer. For any other club in the league besides us and GWS you aren't really expected to play in your first 2 years. Especially when he missed the majority of the first year.

    He's also played some good games in the VFL, although consistency has been a big problem.

    I'd still say Taggert is at the stage where you'd have to be convinced he doesn't have a lot of improvement left. Especially when there are plenty ahead of him who have had all those changes - Jetta, Nicholson etc.

    Davis to get a 1 year deal in case we were to loose Frawley at the end of 2014. Taggert & Tynan also given 1 year deals and told they're on notice for 2014.

    Trade bait: Watts (if Roos comes on board will be more likely to stay), Blease, Tapscott but wouldn't be against keeping them all to see what Roos can do.

    Free Agent: Sylvia (still think he'll stay)

    Hogan comes onto the senior list which leaves us with 6 senior spots and 2 rookie spots to fill.

    If we get a priority Pick (Pick 1) Trades both picks 1 & 3 for two of Sloane, Rockliff, Swallow or Fyfe. And sign Cross as a free agent.

    Go to the national draft with 3 live picks. Two mids and 1 KPD (after Frawley, Garland, McDonald not much depth there) and rookie draft with 2 picks. (Long term ruck prospect and maybe a mature age KPF in case of injury issues with Clark & Dawes. I like Khan Haretuku in the VFL.)

    Interesting to hear Healy on tele during the game re; Jetta. When somebody referred to him as slow, Healy commented that he thought it was a fitness issue rather than lack of pace. After watching Jetta throughout the day I think he may be right.

    Ok, this is where I point out the misnomer of depth; Davis could not get near replacing Frawley. If we are worried about losing James then spend ND18 on a yong, tall defender.

    Davis would just be 'a body' from what I have seen and you can draft 'a body' from the VFL with Pick 60 of the Rookie Draft.

    I know that Viney and co. have therir 'four pillars' that touch on character, performance, etc but my own rule now is; you don't get on the list unless you can do something elite right now.

    Speed, marking, endurance, skills, hardness, clearances, etc - bring something to the table right now that could allow you to play a role at AFL level while developing as a player.

    And that way depth is created from the fact that all players on the list can contribute something right away.

      And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

      There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

      At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
