The only thing that'll improve us is confidence, and the only way to build confidence is to improve the personnel around the players. This will see them grow in self belief and then the tide will turn.

If there's one thing we don't have its a shortage of talent.

I tend to agree, we have the makings of a backline, Terlich was a good pick up needs some work. We're all hoping the forward line gets on the park next year. Still need a small forward, hopefully not Yarren. I would offer up our early picks , Watts and Sylvia if the right deals present themselves to improve our midfield. There is some talent, that is evident but we are mentally defeated.

I'm right on the bandwagon for pushing our list to a mix of outright 'premium' players on the one hand and a host of young, low-cost 'potentials' on the other.

I'm Dunn (see what I did there? So clever. ) with having a list loaded with average-at-best players who are very low value for the list space or the salary cap space.

Literally half of our delistings this year should be players over 25 years, and I'm in favour of quite a signficant clean out in general.

That said, I do agree with a few other people here that our problem is not so much a lack of underlying talent as a deep, deep malaise in confidence and teamwork.

A few more Terlich/Matt Jones, a few talented 18 year olds and a couple of very solid to very good players from other clubs and some serious bonding as a team, we'll be peaches.

Neeld was building a team.

You're all talking about bringing in players to change mindsets and culture.

The backline's a beauty, the forward line is porn material, the next step was the midfield...but...

Anyway, I hope the boys go okay tomorrow.

That's true.

But it was the on field performances that were an issue. I dont care what you're building, losing by 95 points everyweek is not good enough

1-2 quality mids and time into our young boys and that will sort itself out

Gaff and Sidebottom?

Mate i would absolutely love those two in Red and blue, we would have to pay overs, but that's okay

That's true as well...most of the opposition's score was created by turnovers in the midfield as our non-midfielders tried to create passages of play.

Never mind.

Sidey wont leave i don think.

but Gaff could be a good potential get?

Dees supporter, reckon a decent pay rise and a four year deal could potentially bring on a little bit of home sickness.

if we got pick 1 i reckon the pies would offer up sidebottom.

But do the Pies need another forward?

somehow i cant see us getting pick 1

Sidey would be a dream come true

They probably don't doubt we have any other players worth trading though, if frawley decided he wanted to leave all of a sudden maybe, Howe is probably another but i wouldn't be keen to trade either.

the thing is those two players are players we CANNOT trade.

Both are good-star players

Frawley is a star, best full back in the comp by a long way imo

Howe i find difficult to work out what he will be, has the potential to be absolutely anything, scary to think he has only played just over 50 games.

Dangerfield was one of the most hyped players i have ever seen, everyone knew he'd be a star. Boak was in the same boat, both VERY highly regarded and actually showed alot. Rodan was always pretty decent (nothing above that) and Brynes was never that good.

Yarran has proven NOTHING and has been in the system for a while, same with Greenwood.

all of them where highly touted when they were U-18's.

Dangerfield & Boak were going thru the motions for some time at a reasonable level...

rodan was just a fair to middling useful small

Yarran was highly touted & sometimes this stops players from waking up first time round.

greenwood I haven't seen. but remember the talk about him as a kid.

I wouldn't say Clark is a star. You can't just give the star ranking to a player so loosely.

"Star" should be reserved for stalwarts of the sport, or especially successful players.

Matthew Richardson was a star. He was a Richmond stalwart.

Joel Selwood is a star. He's a champion.

Mitch Clark is a very good player is a god awful side.

Slow down with giving out "star" rankings to everyone.

I thought we'd moved on from overrating our players?

I am of the belief that Mitch Clark is a star.

Everytime he has played for us, he has shown he has the makings of a star.

The guy is a freak

I'd happily say Clark is a star, he is All Australian quality in multiple positions, Nathan Jones probably is more a very very good player in a poor team

Give me a champion team over a team of champions any day.

He might be the best fullback but Harry Taylor is the best defender.

pft if I was picking a side I would go Mitch Clark before Richo every single day of the week

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
