Trouble is you can't unload 36 players and draft in 36 new ones or 20 for that matter. We may unload another 12 this yer to go with 12 or so last year and 10 before that. When do we stop churning? Lets face it our recuiting has been shiyte. No talent, no chance, I say. Oh and of course no development of our players whatever that means?

That's true we can't but we have to get rid of the payers that will never change, the ones who we've been waiting to mature/come good; players like Dunn who will never be any more than ordinary, Watts who will never be any more than a tease. The players on our list that have no talent or skill and no amount of development or training will ever improve them.

Blease can run that's about it, Nicholson can get the ball but mainly turns it over, same with Terlich, he needs to learn that this is AFL not Country League. Rodan was finished well before he came to Melbourne Byrnes is spending his time on Superannuation. I've talked about some of the others and there are some I haven't mentioned but they are simply not up to AFL standard and they can't break in to the worst side in the Comp. Time to rest this stuff. The club has been a basket case for a while now, let's get on with the new admin and coaches for 2014 and look to see improvement. The past has been a disaster and that is the legacy those involved will take with them, Board, CEO's, Coaches and players.

1989 I believe it was Meth Coast kicked 1 goal in an absolute belting to the Bombers, the following year they played in a prelim, the year after they played in a GF before winning two of the next 3 flags

Schwab is no longer at the club, nor is Bailey or Connelly or quite a few of the players that played the day we got creamed by the Cats.

We have changed coaches twice and have had two interim coaches and are about to get another coach shortly, so I think any relevance to the Cat creaming should be well and truly wiped by now. If you are extremely fragile of mind, then this will scar you, and if that's the case you should remove yourself from the AFL scene and take up a less stressful occupation, one that pays you less but has less day to day pressure and bad memories. 186

For too long we have given the players a pass because of the trauma of 186 and I think it's about time that stopped, they either get on with it or [censored] off.

Same applies to the supporters it wasn't Afghanistan or Iraq it was a game of football where the players went out on strike, all except Jordie McKenzie that is.

'stuie', we had an ongoing argument on this forum before Schwab got the 'A' where you continued to support him to the bitter end. I understand he did a lot of damage and I think you do to. No he wasn't the sole person involved in this damage but I'm sure you understand that the damage done will not be undone straight away. We are still suffering the after shocks of CS and others.

Winning and losing margins aren't that important, what's important is that we had shocking administration who selected two shocking coaches, with shocking recruiters,

aside from the mature aged recruits all of last years draft picks have been great pickups for us,

the admin has been totally overhauled, new president, new CEO

the coach will be different with us finally chasing proven coaches and big fish, Eade or Williams will be a godsend for this club, and rumours of Ling and Simpson are very strong, culture is going to change.

Soft players like Watts are just soft, guys like Trengove, Grimes, N Jones, viney, Toumpas, Mcdonald, Mckenzie, they're determined to be the core group of a resurgent MFC

Finally the club seems to be digging itself out of hell.

PLayers come and go but our club has been here for 150+yrs.This present bunch of players though is doing their best to kill our club.

I am sick of hearing about how hard it is to play for a club like melbourne when we are so bad. Sick of hearing players like Watts say " I wish we had leaders like Joel Selwood". Sick of the media laughing at us like they did on two radio stations I heard today

Jack Viney showed the rest of them today how to run and how to attack a contest. A first year player. There were a few others and Nate Jones gives his all every week but I am so over this pathetic bunch of soft pea hearts.

Port adelaide have done an amazing job of dragging themselves off the canvas when no-one wanted to coach them, no players wanted to get drafted by them.

Same as the Bulldogs. Looked pathetic for a year and a half but now playing with passion and fire.

And us? Well frankly our club will be lucky to be here in 3yrs time. Our players have escaped so much scrutiny its a joke. 'Oh we don't like cameron Schwab, oh we don't like Chris Connolly, oh we don't like Mark Neeld. If only we had some leaders, if only this if only that.

My kids are done. Melbourne suck. I know of at least 3 other families where the kids have abandoned our club. And why wouldn't they? Where is the hope?Where is the spirit? Where is the passion?

I couldn't care less if we dropped 20 players from our list at season end. Just find me some more like Viney who has a go week in week out. Some hard asses who play with passion and hardness.

for the life of me I just cannot understand it. I know every bloke reading this would give his right one to run out there for the red and blue, why does 90% of our list not give a damn? Why is it seemingly only us, and why does it perpetuate year after year even with the list/coaches/admin constantly being turned over? Why does a player like Jeremy Howe just go stale? You can talk about the ineptitude of coaches we have had, and the disadvantage of being in a poor financial position, but the main problem is what you identify - the attitude of the players. It's not that they are just no good, half of them were high drafts and they were for a reason, we have seen all of them at times play glimpses of good footy, even sometimes together, such as the second quarter today. WHY why why why can't we have 22 blokes on the field giving 100% every week as is the non-negotiable standard at basically every other club? Does anybody in the rooms at full time give the players a bake, stand Jack Viney up and ask the likes of Watts and Howe to explain to him why they did not try as hard as he did today? Is it considered a no-no to call players out these days, are they so petulant and protected that if you upset them they will leave and go on TV bagging you as a coach or what.. what is the story? Others have mentioned the incident where Hill kicked a goal today after just running past an almost stationary Watts, I could not believe my eyes. Why isn't the video of this shown to the whole group at the next team meeting and the question asked of Watts 'who do you think you are with this rubbish?' that is what would happen if someone at Sydney or Geelong or Hawthorn did that, every player makes sure they don't get caught with those kind of efforts because they will absolutely hear about it from the coach and the leadership group. For us nothing happens, and that creates a situation where others think they can get away with it too. When are we going to have coaches and leaders in place that make these demands and actually enforce them, it is driving me insane.

Quite true, I've followed the club for many years and this would have to be the worst bunch of players we have ever had at the club, they lack basic skills, basic accountability and any semblance of heart.

I can't understand why it's happened the way it has, but it's like the perfect storm, where all the conditions have aligned to create the perfect [censored] team.

It's as if they are all waiting for someone else (Jack Watts in particular) to get up and show them the way and win some games for them. There are few among them that deserve to put their hand out at the end of the week.

I've stuck up for some of them in the past but not any more, players like Tapscott, who my wife sponsors, need to get more of the ball or get a new job. Howe, who I sponsor, also needs to show that he is more than a one trick pony and that he can actually help Melbourne win a flag rather than just winning mark of the year.

There are others that sit back and wait for something to happen, and we all know who they are that are never going to be as good as we thought they would be.

How must it grate on Magner when he works his backside off, gets possessions galore, but still can't get a game when Rodan and Byrnes and Nicholson and Blease seem to get one without any form at all.
