The US cycling authorities were said to have been involved in the cover up for Lance Armstrong but the USADA got its man in the end.

Although it is said that it USADA was a government organisation(some reason they are independent to the government and don't answer to a minister etc) they wouldn't have got Armstrong because it would of been curtailed... That is not correct.

ASADA reports directly to the Minister for Sport and not via the "Sports Integrity Commission". I think you mean the Australian Sports Commission.

Given the extreme circumstances of the situation, I dont think it is unreasonable to have had someone like Wylie from outside the AFL broker a deal to diffuse the deadlock.

Its not a good look for the AFL but it hardly makes Vlad any more untenable unless it could be establish as fact that he consorted with EFC to allow this to happen.

The AFL may have been careless but this should in no way detract from the dishonest, disreputable and appalling conduct of EFC and people like Paul Little, Hird, Thompson and co.

Its breathtaking how conceited and unscrupulous EFC have been. The damage they have done to the AFL brand and the game has been enormous.

I understand this perspective but it is to me like leaving the prime suspect in a murder to last.

Surely you would have dragged his but in as early as you could. The longer you leave anything the weaker you risk being. Why for instance would you not grab him under ASADA provisions and later allow the ACC to hammer a nail also

I think it happens often that the prime suspect has a perfunctory interview and when all of the other evidence is gathered they go back to the PS armed with a lot more information and detailed questions. At least that's what watching years of CSI tells me ha ha

Hird must have some serious dirt on Essendon for them to acquiese to continue paying him a $Million per year for a contract when he surely must be in breach of (by not being able to provide coaching services from his end). I cannot believe that even Essendon would have signed a contract for $1Million per year with the option of provision of (coaching) services from the other party (Hird). This is a complete travesty, especially in the light of the AFL's double standards on the matter of bringing the game into disrepute as RR points out above. The AFL punish us for something they found us not guilty of then claim that they are giving us some assistance by facilitating Roos and Jackson yet they decline us PPs in a year when we win only two games (in the first un-compromised draft for three years)!

Demitriou must be sacked for his categoric statement on 3AW denying that Hird was being paid by Essendon. He was either lying or he has no idea about the enquiry outcome, both reasons for getting rid of him.

Hird still (demanding) to be paid a Million big ones whilst banned from coaching after being in charge during 2012.

The AFL stipulate he must not be paid whilst the ban is imposed, but nothing in writing!!

I'm sure I read in an article a couple of weeks ago (I think it was), that ASADA would be "inviting" (read "dragging") Danks before them in January.

Well let get out lawyers on getting back our $500,000 fine for not actually Tanking.

If the AFL governance is so bad due to job for the boys, we must have a great chance of finding a loop hole or 20 and be $500,000 richer.

I may have an opposing view to many here, but I think its great MessyDrugs is paying for two senior coaches. Bleed the cheaters of cash is a very positive thing to do IMO.

Ultimately with what has been leaked and published, anything Dank says will incriminate him.

My guess is that they are building the case in a way that they pre-Dank interview they will have enough to charge him with something and then give him a deal for the truth on Hird/EFC and all the 'lost' documents on who received what.

This what mystifies me also. I would have thought interviewing Dank was part of the evidence gathering in itself not some goal at the end of it.

this could be the hold up as other cases and investigations run their course

most football people think the Essendon saga is the number one priority

but federal law enforcement would be working on a different outcome of events for many people not just asada and AFL

This seems the best explanation to me.

WADA must have dealt with people in Dank's position before - he has all the information, but for a number of reasons will be extremely reluctant to cough it up. They would know the best way to handle someone in his position.

It may be that they'll use Dank more to confirm information they already know from others, rather than to rely on him to tell them where they need to look. They'll only get information from him if he feels he's not going to get himself into any more trouble by spilling the beans, and they'll probably want him to tell them more about other people's involvement rather than his own.

They have to handle him very carefully.
