Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Oh, ok. In that case we shouldn't try and just give up. Glad you're not our head recruiter.

Not that we shouldn't/won't try, guessing the dogs view him as probably the only untouchable player they have.

What's Barlows contact position at Fremantle?

Not sure, but unless we make an out of this world offer i can't see them thinking about it, he might win the brownlow this year.

Adelaide need forwards. Trade out Watts for Shuey, offer some later picks to get some interest. Jamar could also be some use to them. I dont want to lose Howe. Hes exciting and playing better than 90% of the team. When the team was struggeling (moreso) earlier this season, Howe was one of the few that stood up and showed some pride for this club. A must keep player.

If Adelaide dont want Watts then offer draft pick 3 for him.

MFC also need to explore what Fremantle will ask for Fyfe. I think if Adelaide wornt to take Watts, then offer him with a draft pick in the 2nd round.

Gain: Pick 1, Shuey, Fyfe, Hogan, 3rd Round pick.

Lose: Watts, Pick 3, 2nd Round Pick

Add shuey & fyfe to Viney, Jones, Grimes, Trengove. With the possible inclusion next year of Tompass, Blease, Tapscott (however im yet to be convinced on whether they will make it).

West coast will have no interest in Watts so we won't get Shuey, i have heard Fyfe and Hill might be the two real untouchable younger players at freo so i can't see them offering that,

i'd look at trading pick 1 to the Lions for daniel Rich and their first round pick, use that on Matt Crouch

You are aware that Shuey doesn't play for Adelaide?

Jason Taylor has just said we will take best available, even though we need mids. If we get pick 1, hello Tom Boyd.

He also suggested there would be mids at other picks.

The unwritten rule of recruiting..."take best available".

We didn't learn a lesson that was well taught by the RFC with Tambling and picked Cook. We're not going to do it again and that's got to be good news.

Why would you do that in our position what do you do with Boyd ? On trade him. No use if we cant win the ball and keep it.

I believe we should reveiw Jasons strategy

He's a proven recruiter who put together strong lists at Collingwood, I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing. Building a side cannot be done in one draft it's ridiculous to think that. He knows that if we get pick 1 and don't get an extremely good offer we are best to take him. With our forward stocks he can then be developed properly at Casey and only play if injuries occur. We all know we need mids but it would be amateurish to pass over the best player available. We've had recruiters in the past who selected for needs rather than best available and look where that got us. I'm glad we've finally got a proper recruiter.

Taylor Adams will not come to melbourne. Already had talks with richmond, hawthorn, carlton with Geelong also sounding out his manager.

No GWS player will come to Melbourne.

Tom Scully has run down the club to all and sundry there. In fact, at the GWS function after last week's game, I was fielding patronising comments about the MFC from 18 year old country boys who were on GWS' list and who literally didn't know up from down about life yet. My response was essentially, 'don't take this the wrong way, but I can't take anything you say seriously about anything yet - you're still a kid'.

They were all good natured about it - I actually like the club and the player group. But the bottom line remains - there is absolutely no respect amongst the GWS player group for the MFC. I expect their views reflect the views of all other player groups in the competition too.

Similarly, it makes me laugh that certain posters here think that every player in the league who is out of contract is fair game for this club. The likes of Luke Ball and Josh Caddy wouldn't even talk to us. It's simply amazing that we managed to land the likes of Dawes and Clark.

Hence, give contract extensions to Watts, Hogan, Frawley, Viney, Toumpas etc asap. Those of you who think we're a coveted destination for the best available talent in the comp should get off the happy juice. Immediately. You're absolutely deluded.

...and quality key position players are much harder to get. We have one, Frawley the rest are maybes or just going's.

We should take Boyd if his available! Who's to say Hogan might get homesick after a few years.. Atleast we would still have Boyd and could trade hogan for mids.

You say "there would be mids at other picks" - as if to say we already have pick 1?

And it says nothing in the article about not trading pick 1 if we get it (which I hope we do!).

If we do get Boyd then the we will need to trade one of our forwards (Watts or Fitzy) and I doubt we will get a whole lot of trade value for them.

In doing so we would also be further delaying the our improvement curve (so if you want Boyd you better be ready to sit back and relax for 4 or 5 years).

I think its an absolute no brainier - if we get pick 1 trade it for a good mid or 2 (as the pick would have very high trade value with teams looking for a key forward)

Yer - he probably will go home (if we get Boyd) because there will be no mids to get the ball into the forward line!

If we ever want to be a good football side we cant think like that - we need to start backing ourselves and start making the right choices

if we are getting pick 1 & 2 we should think about using 2 on scharenberg instead of Aish, infact if Choco is coach i would almost bet we do that.

If the club adds one player to the list who would you like to see/think we could get

we have some good trade currency in Jack watts, fitz, blease, pick1 and pick 3 potentially

I think we need at least one mature age midfield leader, someone who won't take cr@p and set elite standards, support Nathan Jones and teach our Young midfield what is required

I think the club needs to bring Simon Black or Cameron Ling in as an Assistant coach to help on this front,

My number one target at this point would be David Mundy, Victorian strong bodied mid who freo may consider offering for pick 1.

Not keen on trading out Fitzy or Watts but like the idea of taking Boyd if we get a priority pick. Surely we can trade for Taylor Adams with pick 3 and offer him a good package without deleting our stocks by shedding the few existing players who represent an upside once we get a new coaching structure into place!

No need to trade pick 1 [one] if we get as Boyd is better playing for us than playing against us!

Who would have guessed we would ever be in that situation again?

We were supposed to have won a premiership last year from memory - how did it go so wrong?

In all honesty i'm not a big fan of it, but right now there are players putting talks on hold, team can't win a game against GWS and noone really knows if the club will be around in five years time so we probably need it.

In all honesty i think losing Tom Scully killed us, we won 8 games that year, finally looked like we were on the rise, take out the 186 of course and it was a good year, we were a sneaky shot at finals.

Is there any other cases where a team has gone so far backwards?

8 wins - sounds like a fairy tale!

I think it was just mistake after mistake that killed us - first it was the tanking, then cutting senior players, poor development and then getting Neeld as coach. The combination just killed all confidence and faith in the club for both supporters and players. We really need to retrace our steps - learn from our mistakes: find some on field leadership (trade/free agency), address our development issue and get the right coach.

Hopefully that will bring some life back to the club (we were such an upbeat club under Bailey - with that Geelong style gameplan - remember that game against Sydney?)

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
