Chief executive Peter Jackson thanked Opel and said it was unfortunate to see the German automobile company move on.

“Opel have been a great partner of our club and we are disappointed to see them go,” he said.

“It does present the club with an opportunity moving forward to partner with another brand and further optimise our commercial partnerships.”

she'll be right

It's a shame, not just for the club, but those that work for Opel here in Australia. Seems amazing that they'd pull the pin so quickly when they've been building new dealerships and investing heavily in promoting their brand around the country. Surely they knew when they entered the Aussie market that it would be a long term play to build brand awareness and consideration?

It is amazing that Opel came to Aus in the first place.

It is the European division of GM.

GMH sold a few of their brands for years as holdens.

I have a few friends in the Auto industry and every one said this will not work.

Australia is one of the toughest car markets in the work and they came with one modern model (Astra )

and a couple of others that were average cars.

All sold at higher prices to the competitors.

Perhaps we could suck back up to Volvo?

That's the thing, there was almost no point of difference with their cars.

This is PJ's real first test as CEO. He has identified some of the club's many weaknesses (and I'm sure that potential sponsors have heard those criticisms loud and clear). Now it's time for him to sell some of that hope that he has been talking about. I think he is capable of doing so but he now needs to realize we are moving into a new phase. The deadwood has been cleaned out. That required a critical eye and an unflinching ability to call it a t was with many people. Now, with our sponsor (and new coach), PJ needs to convince people why they want to work at or do business at the MFC. Hopefully his past statements won't be too offputting (as truthful as they were).

If we must lose a sponsor now is a great time, as we'll have the support of the AFL, to help us uncover a strong brand to put on our jumper...

better now than next year, or the one after.

That's a great way of looking at it.

PJ did say he saw this as an opportunity (as if to say we can do better than Opel).

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
