Interesting to observe Neil Craig take over the 3/4 time mid field huddle from Brian Royal, obviously not happy with what was happeining, and a obvious sign of a lack of confidence in Royal delivering the message. Not sure of clearance stats in last but seemed to be more effective.

Hardly an obvious sign that he has a lack of confidence in Royal, that is a far fetched deduction. He probably just had a couple of things he wanted to state to the midfielders alone.

Yep. And he certainly made them known.

Craig took over one of his line manages/coaches. In Any organisation this is not the way to manage. If a manager has no confidence in one of his assistants, he will take over. Royals results speak for themselves. Even with the troops he has at his disposal

Senior coaches routinely step in to personally press their point when there is a critical part of the game in need of attention.

There's not much to be taken from that, though I'm sure the scavengers will pick over it plenty, and get in arguments about whether it means the midfield coach, the senior coach, or board member X and media personality Y are to blame.

That said, I don't personally have a lot of confidence in Brian Royal as a midfield coach. The clearances differential is just so alarming.

Royal has been a massive problem I reckon. The first round I say jack viney doing things our midfield don't seem to do. Eg knowing when to take the ball and more importantly not take the ball in congested situations, getting into dangerous positions 5 feet from a scrimmage when we have numbers in there, getting body contact on a would be tackler.

You don't have to be Gary ablett to do this stuff.

In the modern era, I'm not so sure it's routine. Stats, numbers and KPI's rule what the coaches talk about in between quarters and during the week. Head coaches usually leave the discussion to line manages. Head coaches usually address the whole group for a short period.

I would suggest Craig felt Royals message was not getting thru to the midfield. A blight on Royal I would suggest

Those damn assistant coaches!!

Even when it was the poor list, the terrible head coach, the poor skill execution - I knew it was the Assistant Coaches!

Should get Brett Ratten back as midfield coach. We all know he'd sort us out.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
