The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Featured Replies

Well, this appears to be the place to put random thoughts on possible drafts.

What would people say to these possibilities?

Get Vince and Lyons from Adelaide in exchange for our 2nd round pick and Tapscott with an upgrade of later picks in our favour to even things up.

Send Blease to Fremantle for Michie and a pick (no idea what would be a fair pick to balance this one up, maybe a few upgrades?).

Keep pick 2.

This way we would be gaining ready-made experience in Vince, two young fringe players with potential and keeping our first pick for Aish/Kelly/Freeman. We could also be well positioned to pick up Zac Jones and Cain (for example) in the draft, take a punt on a late pick and still have room for PSD and a delisted free agent.

I know there would be some work to make these things even out, but there could be some utility in there and it would give us a decent mix of young talent and ready-made mids. Could be affected by what level of compensation we got for Sylvia as well.

I don't mind this, however blease for Mitche doesn't sit well with me. Viv is the definition of injury prone, he is a gamble. I'd keep an unfit ranga who knows where the goals are and has pace to burn over an injury prone midfielder who hasn't been able to show any consistent form at afl level.

Fair point. I was looking at this as possibly a win for all parties. Michie won't get much midfield time at Freo with the players they've brought in and if anyone can teach Blease to defend it's Ross Lyon, so both players would benefit.

Wouldn't it be a lot simpler to give Adelaide a chance to get back in the draft with 2 for Sloan. Being locked out of the draft is bad medicine.

I've heard it does happen. Never understood how myself, but I know people who swear they've seen it happen.

And when they return from holidays they are never the same!

Source told me the following:

Vince for Pick 21 & 4th Rounder

Melbourne officials are meeting up with Heath Shaw this week. If Shaw doesn't go to Geelong, he'll be a Dee.

Apparently were keen on Blair and Eilliot.

Lyons seriously thinking about coming to the Dees.

Essendon want picks. We are keen for Leroy Jetta for a 5th round pick.

Greenwood, Mitchie and Mellington all likely to be Demons. 3 way trade between us, Freo and North. Adelaide are heavily into Greenwood though.

If we get Shaw, Vince and Jetta, Apparently Roosy thinks we can win about 8-10 games next year.

Roos is aiming for 8 wins next season.

In other team news:

Riewoldt could walk out of St Kilda tomorrow. Has a meeting with them tomorrow, apparently not happy with the direction of the club. If he leaves.

Trade is brewing. Pick 10, Q.Lynch and 3rd pick for Nick Riewoldt.

Montagna done deal to Essendon.

its like Chilliboy is almost with us

So who is source again...

Absolute rubbish. Has no interest in playing for us and will either be at GWS or Geelong.

I appreciate all the rumours but, going by what you've heard, we will end up with 11 new players. We won't get half that.

Just out of curiosity, who thinks Scully would be worth trading for pick 2 if he was available?

A 12 year old kid who runs numerous Facebook pages

Well what a [censored] then.

Surely someone will steal this as their signature!

Heath Shaw is meeting Melbourne officials this week. Roosy and co will see where hes at, as his back from overseas. If he wants to come to Melbourne, he'll come to Melbourne.

We are interested in alot of players. Most likely we won't get them all but I just post what I hear.

Roosy thinks we can win 8-10 games next year and the list isn't as bad as everyone thinks.

My source is very close to a couple of big kahunas at the club.

As I said, I just post what I hear. We'll wait and see what happens.

Facebook again? Otherwise, what is your source? Because they sure as hell seem to be taking more stabs in the dark than Norman Bates.

With the right recruits, and key players staying fit, I don't necessarily disagree with this. We all know we lack midfield talent, but if we can start to rectify this through this trade period then I have no doubt we will win more games of football.

What you posted about Shaw is different to what you first posted - you said that if he doesn't go to Geelong, he'll be a Dee. Now you say we are only meeting with him to see where he is at. Make up your mind. I don't discount that we may meet with him, but to blatantly suggest he will automatically come to us when we haven't even met him yet his wrong.

a source is a condiment

That is correct. The only two clubs seriously interested in getting Shaw are us and Geelong.

We are meeting up with him to see where his preference is at and where he sees his footballing future.

If Geelong don't pick him up, he'll become a Demon most likely, unless a 3rd team pops up late like a North or Rich and swoops.

nice... That might stir up the hornets nets.....lol

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
