We will get better when these players - (who do have skill) - also develop a serious fitness base and a thirst for working really hard both ways.

They're 11 players who should all be able to play midfield within the next couple of years. It's about developing them with the right coaches, environment and hopefully some leaders/(free agents) around them. They're all skilled and smart. Most have the ability to play inside and again, those who aren't inside players can also develop a hunger for the inside ball and contest. It's about mental development.. A change of the psyche

Bring in another crop of mids at this years draft with the right attributes and mind sets and maybe trade for one or two culture and club changers, and we'll be okay. We just need a really good learning and developing environment at our club. Even if we can't get our hands on some worthwhile FA at the end of the year, I'd be trying to bring in at least two ex star mids who can coach, influence and inspire this group. It can happen. Royal doesn't help. These players need inspiration. There's a good crop there, I'm telling you. I'm usually negative nellly.

The 'out of favour' types are out of favour because they're not quite cutting it for their respective teams.

Taking fringe players can work out with the right planning, especially for certain positions. It's a ridiculous idea to suggest that we snap up any out of favour mid and gift them games in our midfield. That's not the way to go about it at all.

If Sewell was at our club, he would hardly set the world on fire. He is made to look a lot better than he is because he plays in a fantastic midfield.

We need to continue to develop Grimes, Jones, Trengove, Viney, Toumpas and Sylvia and try and get a really good free agent or two by the end of the year who can really influence and inspire that core midfield group of players. Someone like Mundy or Cooney.

Nurture and develop our talent and bring in some leadership and really hard working free agent mids.

Well, I don't agree with you. There is a big difference between someone like Houli and Greenwood. Greenwood is not a talent. He is an average footballer. Stop grouping these players together. Yes you're right in saying there are midfielders out there who would be worthwhile going after, but do a bit of critical thinking.

Kent had issues with being able to train regularly at Perth due to living in country WA, last season was his first real stint at Pre-season and that was somewhat modified, lot of upside in this kid

I was simply isolating a player in Greenwood who is a fringe player because of his lack of talent.

Obviously there are players who are on the fringe for varying reasons and of course there can be some good finds.

As you've pointed out already, it's the first and third that are most important of those three. Mainly the third.

An injection of a couple of A-grade 18 year olds, and hopefully an injection of an A-grade established player (or B-grader, maybe) will help us with depth, whilst a new, better coach will help with the latter.

Agree. I absolutely hate the guy, but, emotion aside, he's the sort of guy who could probably add a bit to our midfield (as long as we don't have to pay/trade too much).

The only player i would trade both pick 2 & Watts for would be Brad Crouch from the Crows, but given they gave so much up for him, have invested a hell of a lot of time in him, and he is starting to really show great signs, it would be impossible to achieve.

Have a look at the 'Viv Mitchie' thread. There's an example of a fringe mid for different reasons. He is an example of a player we should definitely keep an eye on.

I'm just not into the Greenwood talk because I don't rate him as a player and he seems to be on the outer because he's not good enough.

Mitch Robinson is a MUST. I can't stand the bloke but that is exactly what we need. An unsociable, tough as nails, battering ram.

We have plenty of nice boys and we still play bruise free football.

Add Robinson and Hogan into the side, two blokes who love finding the body, and the culture will gradually change on field.

Best way to form a winning culture is to win, we need to do everything in our power to improve our midfield ten fold by next season, Robinson would be handy in that sense, if the price is right

exactly, right now needs go above and beyond what we'd like, we need support for Nathan Jones, don't get it we don't rise up the ladder, it's that simple, we have some okay users on the outside, need to be able to win enough of the ball to use our assets
