agree... Aish is like Ebert in SA,and the go home factor would be strong. He has all class but is an outside player for me. Prefer Matt Crouch.

James Aish has again been named in Norwood's best players - Redlegs survive a scare against West Adelaide at Parade.

You can watch a replay on Thursday at 2.30am (I'm setting the IQ to have a look).

Also worth keeping an eye on Dumont in this game. Could be the inside mid were after. Pretty sure he had 12 tackles to go with 18 touches in this game. Also of interest, ex-Dees jace bode and juice newton lining up for the redlegs and Ferguson for the opposition. Edited July 28, 2013 by ChaserJ

I'm pretty sure he is good mates with Toumpas, which I guess is neither here nor there. Once a player gets drafted they rarely keep allegiances to their club they supported growing up. We just have to hope we can provide him with an environment that he can see himself grow and experience some success in the mid to long term. That's going to be the challenge in keeping every draftee, not just the interstate kids.

He didn't get alot of the ball from what i watched, granted i fell asleep at half time, but i felt he has a real bit of class about him and he is quite abit quicker than i thought, how did he go in the second half?

James Aish was again named in Norwood's best players in his team's big win over the Port Adelaide Magpies last night. This article describes him as "precociously talented" and Trent Dumont also gets some praise:-

Watched the game against West Adelaide, thought Durmont was far better and harder at the ball than Aish. As a side, Taite Silverlock from West Adelaide appears to be a hard in and under type with a great left boot. I believe he was at Essendon a couple of years ago. Does anyone know about this guy?

Aish is an elite user of the footy and just has more time and space than the next player. In space, in traffic, it doesn’t matter for Aish he has rare composure and continues to make the right decisions and never seems rushed. By both hand or foot he consistently uses it well and is one of the more duel sided players you’ll see at this young age and rarely misses a target. Strong mark overhead for his size and has a strong 1v1 game despite his lean build. Aish is an impressive athlete with his ability burst out of traffic with the pill, to sidestep and has a real burst of speed on him in a straight line also. Aish still needs to get stronger but that will come. Despite his lean build he is not a soft outside player and is very willing to get his hands dirty and go hard when it’s his turn but looks more likely to settle on a wing or back flank.

Lock in draft pick #2 for me

The little I have seen of him during one of the carnival games, this is on the money. He see's the game ahead and around him, picks good options and executes well.

I'm starting to lean a bit the way of another poster on the SANFL and am less likely to see senior form being as an important marker as I have before. It is a more open chip, chip game. Quite a few highly rated players have struggled to realise their potential at AFL level. Gibbs and Trengove being prime examples.

If we want a hard at it mid then I would look at Matt Crouch, again on very limited viewing but seemed the best clearance player in tight contested situations, a touch of Selwood about him. Dunstan and Sheed have been talked about in this area of the game but both seem to work a bit wider of the ball this guy is right at it.

hes compared players to both Gysberts and Morton, iv been a member of big footy since 2008, he's the worst judge in Australia and he chops and changes his list every week, but in saying that he's probably a better judge than BP.

I would say after yesterday, we are no chance at drafting Aish.

I watched him play SANFL the other week and he just sits out the back of packs.

That is the last thing we need.

Aish is classy, composed and the rest of it, but he won't get the ball at MFC unless he goes in and gets it.

I haven't seen Aish go in and get it in the 5 games I've seen - and he didn't even go in and get it during the champs.

We should target these types: Sheed, Durmont, Battesby, Hartung, Crouch and Dunstan.

With our first pick, target Sheed, trade pick 1 for an elite mid fielder, because we don't need Boyd or Aish, they'd be next to useless at MFC.

Then with our second pick, take Durmont if available.

Another thing, I'd even consider trading pick 1 to another club for 2 top ten draft picks if possible, or float the idea to get the best picks we can.

A player and pick or 2 picks for pick 1.

Because we don't need Boyd or Aish, we need players who go in and get the pill.

I think the question surrounding Aish is a bit more nuanced than 'he's outside and will always be outside and we don't need that so we shouldn't draft him'. Yes we need a inside ballwinners, but we also need guys who can use the ball and make good decisions. We get crucified on turnovers week in week out. Aish works well enough in traffic when he needs to, which suggests to me that he can develop into an inside/outside midfielder. Plenty of high quality outsiders who developed their inside game to high levels, Judd being one of the most obvious. If we do pick Aish (or Kelly as other draft watchers suggest), we could get someone like Cripps at pick 18/19 or even a Dumont, Dunstan or Crouch if they slide. It's not all about pick 2 (or pick 1) for us.

Aish has spent most of the year coming back from injury. Came straight back for the champs and was tagged throughout. He didn't dominate, but made the most of his disposals and remained influential. He's had three games for Norwood and has been named in the bests every week. Not bad going, and we haven't seen the best of him this season.

If we have a priority pick before the 1st round, I lean toward taking Boyd. Our talent stocks are so mediocre, I don't know if we can get too cute when it comes to picking the best talent. Of the sides that would be obvious bidders for pick 1, Brisbane have the pieces I'd be most interested in. If Rockliff and their first rounder were on the table, I'd be listening. Some combination involving Rockliff and say Mayes or Hanley would be of interest.

As a club, we can't bank on 'Aish might develop into an inside/outside player'...

We need inside midfielders capable of winning their on ball.

Aish appears as outside a player as I've seen in recent times and that is not what we need.

Not only that, Aish is stick thin and will take 2-3 years to develop.

The club no longer have anymore time, it's ran out. It's ran out because they've drafted outside players for far too long.

Now.. No-one wants to go in and get the ball and we have no-one capable of going in and gettting the ball - bar Jones/Viney, we need more of these.

On the brightside at least pick 19/20 leaves us perfectly placed to score an inside midfielder that slips.

Now we have to get picks 1 and 3 right, providing we get a PP.

I would be a little surprised if Melbourne hadn't already determined that they'll take him at 2. Too good to pass up. Solid footy pedigree and best afield in his last outing against men.

You're probably right DF 26. I just think Aish will be an out and out star in the Pendlebury/ Cotchin mould. IMO we cannot pass that potential up.

I don't get the hate. Knightmare had his 2013 phantom draft up last year. He changes it often based on what he see's and hears throughout the year. Would you prefer he waits until a week before the draft and then put one up? He hasn't just gone with the group think list's like most phantom drafts. These are his genuine thoughts on where the players will go based on a thorough following of junior football. His phantom thread is over 50 pages long. Most of the posts are from Knightmare answering other posters questions.

Personally I prefer other posters like Quigley (who will tell you why a player won't make it) and Snoop dog's. But I'm not going to bag a guy out who has devoted a lot of spare time watching and sharing his opinion on junior football.
