PMan, Montagna and Sewell are almost finished. Let's not become the pension plan. Do agree re Thomas though.

Disagree. They are certainly on the more mature end of the scale, but who is teaching and leading the young players in the middle of the ground? Royal is effing useless, clearly. We need some older heads that can take the next generation forward, as well as providing some direction, inspiration and quality on the field. Sewell and Montagna still have a few years left. Sewell especially is arguably the toughest inside player going around. He's what this club desperately needs. Unfortunately I think our chances of getting him rank somewhere between buckleys and bugger all.

There are bigger issues here than wins and losses, namely the disintegration of club culture. These players would form an important part of addressing that.

Fair enough. I just wouldn't want to be paying massive overs.

Sewell would be ok to help out Jones, but I wouldn't give up anything for him.

It would be very interesting to see how much a better midfield coach would make us, some basic stoppage structure and a cut in the ease of which the opposition take the ball away could make a big difference, as well as the natural progression and development of Viney, Toumpas, Kent and Matt Jones, Trengove will be better with a full pre season, how much better remains to be seen, and Grimes was really good early this year so i can't see any reason he can't be that good or better next season, if we add 2 mature mids to guide those boys and maybe one prime age mid like Daisy we will be a much better side.

Ultimately it's about the cultural change though, won't matter who takes the field if the culture is no good.

Anyone think we should try to get Jordie Gysberts back in the fold for cheap? Sure he as struggled to break into the top notch Nth Midfield but is a thin tall mid who will take a bit of time.

PROS:

- Had 30 touch games in his first year - especially memorable was the debut at skilled v Cats. We simply dont have mids who win the ball that much.

- Silky kicking

- tall mid 191? We dont have one of them. Takes a little longer to develop.

- top draft pick so people know he has talent.

- Should be quite cheap!

CONS

- May have burnt some bridges. But now Neeld has gone we should welcome everyone we can back.

- May not be up to it.

Has played ZERO games at North. He is ripping it up over there..

Definitely should recruit him - $600k a year?

How about Patrick Karnezis? Pick 25 in the 2010 draft, is a 190cm and 88kg midfielder. He has played 21 games but has only played 3 this year despite dominating in the reserves.

"Brisbane Lions youngster Patrick Karnezis has staked his claim for a return to the senior side in a stellar performance in the NEAFL on Saturday.
Karnezis was the clear standout with 32 disposals and four goals in the Lions' 33-point win over the Sydney Swans."

The NEAFL is a joke though, each week some spud Gold Coast or Brissy player bags 10 against Redfern or whatever the other teams are in the league.

We need to sacrifice something like Jack Watts + our 1st round pick to bring in an absolute gun mid. After that maybe a fringe player that we hope to turn into a good player and then rest via draft and development.

Karnezis is no slouch is is categorically 100% coming back to Victoria. Doubt he would be enticed by us.

True, the NEAFL is not a strong league but his performance was against the Swans reserves. Would have thought he fits the fringe player category quite well.

We are not an attractive proposition, but if he has the talent and desire then he will be getting regular senior games which may be just enough to entice a promising young midfielder to us.

If we are after someone from St Kilda, we should forget Montagna and Dal Santo and see if we can prise Jack Steven free. Playing some very good footy this season but I doubt they'd let him go.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
