But yes Drain has a good background working with Essendon with Jackson (and possibly Mark Williams I'd guess) then moving to the dogs and helping them rebuild with Eade coaching then moving on to St Kilda to work with Ross Lyon in 2008 - bit of a Paul Roos connection.

As for Harrington being made redundant due to costs that would've played a role but to me there is certainly a performance basis to this decision as well. Otherwise despite our financial position why would you not keep him until the trade period this year so all his knowledge of the free agents/contracts/draft class etc can be utilised. That said I don't necessarily think he's bad but it sounds like he's not great!

With Viney taking on some strange role this year in development (?what does he do) and Taylor recruiting you think Viney and the new GM be that Drain or otherwise could be in charge of list management.

Viney and Craig are both very hard ones to place under the new administration. I'm not sure where they quite fit. I'd actually use Viney as a senior assistant coach even if that means he has to coach Jack. Without a recruiting or list management background it seems a waste to use him in that role.

The way I see it new senior coach, new GM and Taylor are the 3 most important people to get us back up and running on field.

I've always been doubtful that Harrington is responsible for decisions like that. I can't see how anyone other than the coach can be responsible for the "who" side of the list. I though Harrington would be more about the "how" side.

To that end, I don't know what this actually means. From the quotes from Jackson ("reflective of costs") it sounds as if it will be replaced with a less senior role; List Analyst or somethingnlike that.

Probably "list manager" role will be combined with another. Also depends on what the "list manager" does at MFC? If contracts are handled by Footy Head, then there is plenty of room to combine roles.


I'd be surprised that there'd be a battle for Drain. Hasn't been able to find a job in footy for about last 2 years.

Footy manager with Kevin Sheedy at Essendon, Footy Manager at Bulldogs with Eade (short stint) and then moved to Saints as head of list management and left their list completely our of whack when he left (both in aging of list and salary cap pressure). Seen him go backwards over time - not sure worth fighting over.

I agree those things were really good and have posted about it before. But they fooled me into thinking that the management team were doing a good job across the board, when really almost everything else was dysfunctional.

I'm so confused around the structures at the club I have no idea if what PJ is doing is right or not. When Craig came to the club and was given his title the MFC attempted to explain his role/duties on the club website. I was baffled then and still are. Was Vineys role different to Harringtons? Is anyone doing Craig's role now his is interm Head Coach? Who were the 4 employees reporting to CS? I was under the impression that Craig reported directly to the board to minimise CS's influence over the FD. This was reported after 186 and when Craig was appointed

Thats rubbish , CS had four people reporting to him so he had control over the whole FD, the guy was destructive and one the worst Administrators the clubs ever had, even after 186 the guy still couldn't help himself, PJ has done more in 2months than CS achieved in 6years.

Feel for the guy when you read things like: "Harrington will be the fall guy for many of last year's controversial recruits, including David Rodan, Shannon Byrnes and Tom Gillies, although he was overruled on some of those by then coach Mark Neeld."

Also, find it hard to believe Jason Taylor is "under pressure", hasn't even had a chance to show what he can do yet. Although, it could just be because Todd did such a good job with last years draft I guess.

Its not just last years recruits, they aren't the real problem, its all the stuff-ups with early draft picks for the previous 3 years.
