Average of approximately 2 / week. Prob an underestimation. Had a good look at him close up yesterday and I am very unimpressed by his speed and more in particular his waist. The guy has put on at least 5kg of fat since arriving at the club. A disgrace only matched by everything else Neeld did. But 3 years you have got to be joking??

is it confirmed he got 3 years?

'The club also signed Lynden Dunn for two years after he finished the season well in 2012 and, in a surprise to many, gave recruit Cameron Pedersen a three-year contract in the off-season.'

Neeld's two worst list management decisions were to re-sign Dunn and to give Pedersen three years.

Yeah, but Gillies has only had two or so chances to suck at AFL Level with us before they ditched him back to Casey.

Pederson has been doing it nearly every week for a while now.

I don't think trading Gysberts to get Pedersen was bad, and he has been improving. But signing him up for 3 years was pretty optimistic.

It's done, he is getting better, did well against Koschitzke yesterday, move on.

We used to have the David Neitz strut. We now have the Cam Pedersen waddle.

To me this guy does have some talent in the fact he can read the play and he has some marking ability (ie he's not Sellar) but he's clearly not in peak shape and thats disappointing.

He's like the Leigh Brown before he got to Collingwood. In fact Leigh Brown and him as I mentioned in another thread could both do with a trip to Jenny Craig.

It will be interesting to see how he comes back after preseason break later this year. It would want to be better than how he turned up to the club.

It's not optimistic its mind blowing. Here is a guy who can't break into the North team who finished 8th on the ladder. We are striving to be better than that so we take one of their depth players and give him a 3 year deal I mean that's crazy. 2 with an incentive based 3rd maybe but 3 straight away its nuts. Now if he was a midfielder I could handle it but we had some young and some experienced talent in the same position he was set to play even after trading Martin.

I don't think he is getting better at all. He might find his feet a little but in the last few weeks he's been up against Grimley, Lynch and Kosi. It doesn't get much easier than that playing full back.

The fact he is even in the backline and couldn't hold down the back up ruck (always looked too short) and forward role indicates he was a failure.

Very underwhelming. I just can't see what he brings. Too short to ruck at all, shirks the contest consistently. He got better as the game went on yesterday but his first quarter was on par with anything Gillies served up in his illustrious career at the MFC.

3 years really is a baffling decision.

We haven't lost anything so far as Gys has done nothing....

Except for a valuable spot on the list for 3 years, which is far more than nothing. In hindsight we would have been better off just delisting Gys and keeping the picks.

Gysberts just turned 22 and is being developed (properly) on the wing like he should have been with MFC, Pedersen is 26, peak AFL age and has shown as much as he's going to show.

I'm staying on record as saying this will turn out to be a terrible trade.

Fair. Pedersen > Gillies, I'll pay that.

Look, the point is, right now three years seems two years too many. But stranger things have happened in football; if Zac Dawson can be a regular FB for any team ever, then there is hope for Pedersen. I've seen some talent in him, I just don't know if he can consistently produce it. He'll need to toughen up, muscle up, shed the fat, and work his behind off, but it's doable.

We'll delist Sellar at season's end and Pedersen will become our depth. Our starting FB/CHB combo is surely Frawley/McDonald, with Garland the third tall when needed, but you need depth, and Pedersen > Sellar.

Probably a dumb question, but if we delist someone and have to pay out the last 2 years of their contract, the dollars don't count against the salary cup for the final 2 years do they? If not, I would delist at years end and move on.

Sh*t decision by the club. Sh*t footballer. Sh*t trade initially by both teams. Lose-Lose.

Hopefully he doesn't take up the spot of someone who doesn't squib it every week. I've never seen a guy with such a big body be such a soft c*ck!

I hate seeing him wear Red and Blue.

You've obviously forgotten Paul Johnson.

I remember PJ injuring his shoulder from smashing in trying to get the ball.

I remember Pederson for squibing a mark when there wasn't even anyone coming at him!

Would it have been Neeld that determined the contract length, in any case whoever did it is on some very powerful drugs. I don't have an issue with us taking a punt on him but 3 year contracts are for players who are established and recognised. I actually would've preferred him to not get any touches yesterday because he was shocking with his decision making and execution.

Zac Dawson is a much maligned player and a much better player than many give him credit for. One thing he always does is hit the contest hard, you get nothing less than a full effort from Dawson. Pederson is nowhere near Dawson's level and unlikely that he ever will be.

Except for a valuable spot on the list for 3 years, which is far more than nothing. In hindsight we would have been better off just delisting Gys and keeping the picks.

I think this is the point here 'Nasher', we took some really good mature agers in Jones, Terlich and Clisby. Pederson's spot could have gone to someone like Hannath, I don't understand what he brings to the table.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
