Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Although I am writing this from New York, wasn't Sellar one of the best for Casey last weekend? (And didn't he kick multiple goals in one of our rare wins for the year during the NAB Cup?)

Yes but the point about Sellar stands that he is a very good VFL or Preseason footballer who I think struggles mentally and mightily come AFL game day. The dropped marks that he'd take every day at training are his biggest issue otherwise he'd have nailed down the forward/ruck spot. Lacks the speed for down back I think.

Craig is widely known as one of the good guys of the AFL as in he's true to his word. So maybe he could help Neeld in the fact that he refused to overrule or oppose him as aggressively as he might have wanted to. I think in some ways it's telling that PJ went for Craig. If he thought Neeld and Craig were truly a solid team spreading the same message I think he might well have elected Rawlings and sat Craig on the outer.

Let's wait and see what the results are like for the rest of the year. There were signs against St Kilda of improvement but against a side as bad as the saints you'll always look good in patches. Few predicted Craig would win the job at Adelaide when he took over caretaker did they?

I also think Craig can serve a purpose around the club under Roos or Eade. Possibly not Williams due to history of coaching against each other in a two team town. PJ stressed his desire to revamp the FD with experienced people. Whilst Craig might not fit clearly in his mind for a set position if we have to pay him out his 300k I'd rather have him around.

Darren Crocker at North has proven a very handy assistant coach who helped Brad Scott get the playing group on side when Brad won the job from Crocker as caretaker. With the right personalities it is achievable.

Can't wait to get back but I suspect that 2013 was an inspired choice for an extended overseas trip during the football season. Hopefully 2014 will prove to be a year when I do not miss a Dees match with vastly improved performance from this year!

Yep

and how is New York?

Absolutely believe he could be our man. Have seen first hand his relationship with the players. One of the main absolutes of being a good coach is the ability of having the players want to play and win for the coach. I see this in Neil. I just hope he wants it as bad as we may want him.

I have no idea who the best man is - I'm sure those making the choice will leave no stone unturned - but in regard to Craig, to pinch a quote from someone famous .. "I like the cut of his jib"

Should he be the best candidate, all power to him

Club meetings/lunches now held in NY, CBD? I am sure you could find something slightly better to do in NY than reading Demonland.

I think last night definitely adds a bit more weight to this argument. He has the players playing with a lot more freedom and flair straight away which is great to see. What really stands out is the presenting - it has improved tenfold and that stupid bombing long to packs has lessened, but still used when needed.

I wouldn't be disappointed at all if Craig ended up coach, he certainly seems to be able to interact with the players. Listening to Gawn post match last night on SEN, he remarked that Craig is the funniest bloke he's ever met. It's really good to hear these things as the communication seems to have stepped up a notch and the players definitely react to him.

Even if Craigy doesn't get the senior role, I do hope he stays at the club in some capacity.

You're worried about what Williams did at Port, but not what Craig did at Adelaide. Furthermore, Williams has been an awesome assistant whilst Craig failed to steer Neeld. Give him another 10 weeks, and then maybe.

LOL

Funniest thing I read in ages.

Neeld worst enemy was himself, it hard to advise someone who believes he knows it all.

I my opinion MW is too immature to be a Senior Coach.

I cant help be but happy with the performance of Neil Craig so far, since he was installed as care taker coach.

Just watching all his press conferences he is a great speaker, just sounds so much more inspiring and sells a future better than Neeld ever did. Im not surprised the players are responding to him.

If we improve further over the coming weeks, his coaching stocks will rise and then give the club something to think about.

Maybe if they are serious about a Roos, could Craig coach for another 12mths on a yearly contract, knowing he will hand over the reigns ?

Just throwing it out there, cause its looks unlikely Roos is ready this year.

Otherwise your looking at Williams or Eade.

If Neil wins this week end can he get the keys to the City?

I'd say that it will take Craig two years to sort this group out.... Give him too years and then move him to footy manager..... We don't need a premiership coach yet.... Our players aren't ready....

The problem NC will have is if we win a few games against top sides and he puts his hand up Roos might put his hand up too thinking the list is better than he first thought. (Which it is).

If this situation was to arise who would we opt to go with?

Personally I think Craig will be better for the experience second time around.

If this scenario was to play out I'd prefer Neil Craig.

If NC is on a par with other select choices he automatically becomes the cheapest option. Might come into play , might not

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
