I certainly woulnt feel hard done by should we get Choco.

Its mooted as a 3 horse race but im not sure all horses want to run ..

Im definitely starting to get the feel that the opinion of theclub has changed from that "basketcase no one would want to touch with a 10 ft pole " to the best Opportunity this side of the Stump.

Hopefully we will see that "Different Side" in 2014...who knows...might just happen opne day with the right leadership.

I heard Choco speak at a GWS Coterie function two years ago. He was absolutely sensational.

He is a fantastic communicator in a footy environment - bloody funny, has a bucket of larrikin war stories as long as your arm, clearly a wealth of football experience - and he undoubtedly knows how to control the sheds/motivate players/create a bullet proof culture.

I really hope he's our coach at the end of this year.

The case for Roos is compelling, but I don't think his heart is in it.

Choco would inspire something this club has lacked for far too long - PASSION. For the first time in living memory, the MFC may actually develop a personality/some character.

My wish list:

Head coach: Choco Williams

Assistants: Junior McDonald and Wellman (offer to double his Essendon pay cheque). And then keep the best off the current assistants (Rawlings, Brown etc).

Football director: Neale Daniher

Fitness guru: Dave Misson

Head of other elite performance stuff: Neil Craig

Head of player development/recruiting/some other important role: Todd Viney

Sylvia, Gawn and Watts to re-sign, and Frawley to sign a contract extension. And secure a couple experienced A grade mids from other clubs in the trade period.

I reckon this is achievable if the AFL is committed to assisting us with the rebuild/restructure.

C'mon MFC Board - it's about time for some character/personality to be injected into this club.

Clearly an error - but press conferences with Choco will be far more entertaining than under Ross Lyon.

I agree with the comments his brother made in that article. This club, in its current circumstances, is ready made for Choco Williams.

IMO he is far better suited to the MFC at the moment, than a Geelong or a Hawthorn or a Swans.

I think comrade Burgundy raises an important aspect. Roos would probably be teh most compelling candidate but he doesn't seem particularly 'up for it' . It would no doubt be a case of enough cash to wake him up. I sense with Choco , though he too would command a decent dollar, that here we have someone champing at the bit to get back into the dragons mouth.

Melbournes best years and efforts have all come when players are not just allowed to play but encouraged to play with flair, to take it on, to get fired up. Ive seen absolutely NONE of this the past 18 months. I think Choco would bring this element back.

Still be a very disciplined team but one where players are given some leeway to back themselves in the fray.

For mine its really the only way to play footy. You just cant eliminate the reality it all happens in the moment.

Chocko will give us unconditional passion and hunger.

I'm quite sure if Roos were to accept the job he would be 100% in it. At the moment, I would want to see or be informed about the changes that will be made to the club before I decide if I am going to give 100% or not, so I can't question where Roos' thoughts/feelings are at.

They need to get it right behind the scenes before they will get the right coach.

I have never really wanted Roos to coach Melbourne, not sure why, just thought he was cocky rather than confident. The more I've watched/read, the more I am liking his attitude. If the MFC really want him, and let's face it, he's arguably the best candidate, he will be ensuring us our FD/Club are set up in the best possible way to ensure success.

But Williams understands players, he cuddles them, he educates them, he gets the best out of them. Colin is just a country lad that needs direction. I'm sure Colin knows the clock is ticking on his footy career and I have a hunch Williams would get the best out of him.

If Williams could have got hold of Hi-Ho maybe 5 years ago I might concur. For me the die is set with that lad.

Theres far more value putting that same time and effort into a handful of other youngens.

I reckon , just mho of course , that he will go ( CS) to another club and earn his money..or rather ...wont.

If we get Williams I'll be hoping for

Senior Coach: Mark Williams

Forward Coach: Neil Craig (so experienced and I hope we keep him. Don't think his current role would be required with Choco though so forward coach could work.)

Midfield Coach: James McDonald (same as you Ron. Junior has a relationship with Choco through GWS, and it'd be great for the club and players if we could get him back.)

Backline Coach: Adam Kingsley (Played under Choco and is a very highly regarded assistant who has had success everywhere he's gone.)

Player Development Coach: Nathan Bassett (Very highly regarded in the SANFL for his ability to get the best out of his players. Would be a great get for us.)

List Manager: Todd Viney (Experienced and we should hold onto Todd. I like the thought of a list that he would build.)

Fitness guru: Dave Misson (Don't need to say much.)

Head of Football: Peter Schwab (Ultimate professional and a strong head on his shoulders. Which from all things I've heard you need when dealing with Choco.)

CEO: Peter Jackson (Hope he stays beyond 2014. If not then Ron Gauci would be a good get.)

President: Geoff Freeman (Like what I've heard from him. Would also consider Alan Stockdale or Greg Wells depending).

Mark Williams was a great coach. His Port Adelaide teams always played with a good balance of attack and defence and toughness and skill. The question is whether he can reproduce it in this day and age.

Like Mark Neeld, Williams was a teacher before becoming a coach. However, I see their approaches as being total different. One thing I remember Williams saying about 10 years ago which stuck in my mind was that he wanted to make every player feel as though they were the most important player on the list. I think this is a good quality in a coach and I doubt that any players ever felt that under Neeld. In saying this, the feeling out of GWS was that he was too hard on the players.

I would definitely have him as a preferred candidate. He has many appealing qualities: a reasonably attacking mindset, an ultra competitive personality, a willingness to work with players, experience coaching at a club with limited resources, a good sense of humour and the ability to sell the club.

In all seriousness I actually think Col has been having a crack. I posted in another thread that removing the smacking against the bombers he is averaging close to 20 touches and a goal a game. In the season we are having I am not sure what more people can expect from him.

Still, if we are after a role model for Col as some seem to think he needs Chocco would be super. The true example being his work this season with Martin.

Dusty was heading down a worse path than our boy Colin and is playing some fantastic footy atm

Chocco took him under his wing and Dusty is looking the goods this season so far.
