Which other teams will be looking for a coach in 2014?

Was just thinking about this possibility, and who will be our competition to snag the coach we want.

At this stage I think Brisbane would be the only definite club looking for a new coach, I cant see Voss being there past this season. He has been poor to say the least.

West Coast would be another, as the rumblings are fairly strong that Worsfold will walk away at seasons end but he might stay on, who knows.

Outside chance might be the Saints or Doggies if they capitulate to MFC-like levels in the seasons 2nd half. Watters and McCartney aren't exactly setting the world on fire.

Guy McKenna will surely continue at Gold Coast, and Leon Cameron is locked in at GWS.

How about Collingwood if Eddie's love child doesn't produce the goods?

At this stage West Coast look more likely than not, Brisbane a decent chance and if Richmond fall in a heap is Hardwick not out of contract, although Richmond seem to be going ok.

Could just be us and West Coast and in that case you'd think we'd go for the experienced coach where as I'd see West Coast looking at the inexperienced options. I don't think they'd be interested in Eade or Williams and I'm not sure Paul Roos would be keen on going to Perth although they could make him a big offer.

You would think Sumich would be the obvious candidate if Worsfold walks, especially after getting a different look under Lyon, although will the club and the fans be able to forgive him going to the enemy in the Dockers?

West Coast appear certainties; there's been talk of Worsfold stepping down.

If Richmond don't make the finals, especially given where they are now (7-4 with some easy games to come), the pressure on Hardwick will be enormous.

Brisbane and Voss might be a possibility - 10 wins last year, won the NAB Cup, but donuts in the season proper.

I hear Scott Burns is a walk in if woosha goes.

Yeah could be. I forgot he was there. :)

I think we'll be the only side looking for a coach, which is good for us.

It's highly unlikely that Voss isn't given another year, he is their best ever player and captain.
The Lions will continue to surround Voss with experienced people and get their board right.

West Coast won't change their coach, it's not like Woosha is really struggling - it's more a case of injuries for WC,

If Woosha isn't there it will be because he doesn't want to be.

Other than that, we are the only side looking for a coach.

At least we have the walk up start. No timetable pressure. Can do a proper search

Are Otway Districts still in the Demons strip, jazza?

My guess is WCE, Brisbane Lions and GWS will have new coaches next year.

I think it would be highly unlikely if West Coast were looking for a new coach that they would go for an experienced coach (unless it was Danihar). I look at how Geelong has worked with Scott coming in as a "freshman", and think that other successful clubs would follow a similar path. The Eagles have a solid group that would just need a slight tinkering initially, and a newbie is more likely to do that than someone that is a "career coach".

I am doubtful that Voss will get the arse this year.

GWS obviosuly has a new coach next year, with that change not hindering our search for obvious reasons.

I can't see any other changes and would expect we have a free crack at the field. Could be perfect timing for us to going through this total football club rebuild.

The rumblings over here in the west is Worsfold is a certainty to go. Voss I would suggest might get next season. I can't see Buckley going as was suggested, Eddies ego wouldn't allow it

Any rumblings about a Woosha replacement?

As I said above, I don't think it will be an experienced coach. That said, if Woosha goes, it just adds another candidate to our impressive list.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
