I have been meaning to come on here for some time to discuss where we are at re Roos. Simply there is nothing that has happened that has changed the view of where we are at. Roos is still seriously considering, the club is rightly putting a back up plan in to place, however the club still remains more than hopeful, but confident he will become our coach next season.

Roos needs to see we have our house in order, this is a major issue, and from what I hear this why he is not confirming interest. AFL concessions also likely to be a reason. It remains telling that he will not declare no interest. He may also have issues with interstate movement with his family (not confirmed with me), this is something I have only heard on Demonland.

Interesting on OTC tonight. Jackson was very clear about football department spending remaining at least at this seasons levels. He seemed to be driving this point. Maybe there is something to be read into this. Regardless, nothing Roos said suggested to me things have moved positively or negatively at this stage, everything remains in process.

As I have said before, a decision will be made seasons end. Lets not sugar coat the alternatives, they may be good, but Roos is our man.

Again I can confirm the board remains confident. Roos continues to leave the door open. He is not one to play games, he would not be doing this if there was no chance. I hope the MFC, MCC, board and all other stake holders create the right structure and environment to bring him to the red and blue.

Maybe he has done a Lyon and already signed with a team so can't really say he is not interested in coaching again. Who would want to coach a basket case like Melbourne? The pressure would be enormous

I have heard from two independent sources (one a player agent abd one a board member at another club) that pretty much confirm what GNF has said - except that they reckon there's no problem with his family about moving.

I've had a few bucks on him for a long time now. Do I worry? .........not.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. I personally haven't felt all that good about the Paul Roos ego stroking that has been going on since the start of this saga.

I feel like Williams is the best fit for us (if he is truly interested in getting involved). He is a passionate man with a record of getting the most out of young players. Just seems like the sort of person who might finally be able to start to erode away the inherent lack of real professional standard commitment to that has been allowed to fester within our playing group for as long as I can remember. I feel Williams would be more likely to dig in for the long haul and his motivation would be winning games of football as paramount.

Frankly, I agree with the sentiment that you only coax a person so far and then give up.

However, as I have said a couple of times - why should Roos commit when we do not have the stable essential ingredients that would make-up a club looking for a coach; we don't have a President and we don't have a head of the FD for next year.

In what world would anyone capable of resurrecting this club agree to come to the club when two positions are not filled?

If Roos is the kind of person I think he is then he will wait until those two positions are settled, the Board is appointed, and the AFL has given approval for the club's direction.

And as a fan of the club, I have no right to expect an outsider to show as much blind faith as I do - nor would I want them to.

As Jackson noted - our culture is nowhere near those of the best clubs. Hiring a coach before we have a stable Board, a President, and a FD head is not a move in a forward direction in my opinion.

Can you say with certainty that Eade and Williams have this view? Is it just a senior coaching gig for them or is it the challenge of the Melbourne Football Club?

At this stage, none of the 3 key candidates would've declared their desire to coach the MFC for individual reasons. Just saying.

Roos had the perfect chance to categorically rule himself out of the MFC job last night on national TV.

Would like to here an update from club as to where we are at with new coach , president & footy manager.

Has been very quiet on all fronts recently. Surely there has been some progression they can share with the members.

He and PJ must have some sort agreement going on. There is no other reason he wouldn't just say

"Once & for all i am not coaching the MFC"

That would be it.

But he just listened to the CEO. In my opinion he is impressed, lets get that Football Manager position nailed...Roos may follow.

Roos seems very laconic/ disinterested even on the coaching position. Certainly I have seen no evidence of a great desire for the role, hope he is not simply enjoying the courting whilst pushing the dollars up without any real and genuine interest. This is a pretty dark place we are currently in and we don't need a bloke to be motivated by simply sucking more dollars out of the place. Think I prefer Choco Williams and Rodney Eade as better alternatives.

i tend to agree, i think we are still right in the mix, we are a shell of a club, why would he sign anything until he knows how he would be working with/for?

Why can't it be both? I've been coaxed to change jobs and the clincher was money. Maybe I really would have preferred to stay where I was with the people I knew, but once you got me you got 100% because I've got that thing called pride. I'm not going to do any jobs half arsed. I'd like to assume that 99% of those that make it to the top in the cut throat business of AFL coaching have the same mindset.

And why is Blight the one person that is thrown up every time this discussion happens? Why not Lyon? He went to Freo for the money. Is he phoning it in? Malthouse was coaxed out of retirement with a big stack of cash - is he giving a B grade performance.

I agree with the other posters that have mentioned that he is most likely waiting to see if we can put a serious club behind him. I would. Right now I'd hope my son wasn't drafted to us, so dysfunctional are we. Hopefully that will change, but if I was going to risk reputation and uproot my life for a job I'd want to be sure that my best efforts wouldn't be undone by the ineptitude of others at every turn. I don't think that's too much to ask.

If Roos was disinterested he could have said simply "Do not ask me again. I am not interested in the MFC job at all" to our CEO's face on National TV. It is Roosey's own show ffs!!

BUT he chose to say nothing & listen...As GNF said last night Roos is still well in our sights, it depends who PJ can lure to the club in other positions.

Do people really believe Choco Williams can change the ENTIRE CULTURE of our club on & off the field???

I don't, but Paul Roos could if he has strong support around him
