I don't think we are going to see a new coached announced till August wyl.

I believe the new President and board members will need to be in place first.

The major players are not going anywhere in the next few weeks so no need to rush,

other than us poor members wanting some good news does it matter?

I also don't think there's any rush OD. Definitely throw everything into trying to get who we want, but with Craig in place (at least till the end of the year) i think you're spot on about getting everything together at board level first.

In fact i think it would be a pretty hard sell getting Roos to come down before he gets to assess all that so in some ways going too hard too early on him might well be the worst plan of attack for us until things are in place. Can you imagine him coming down for an interview/discussion ....welcome to the Club....well the interim one, President is still coming, and a few Directors and.....

In addition i wish we had signed PJ for more than a year. He is presently the Key player/powerbroker for us in any search/discussions and yet whoever he might be speaking to has no idea whether he'll be part of the furniture beyond his first season.

Williams/Eade might be a tad more forgiving as they're already based here and appear to be more available and willing than Roos has indicated so far.

I prefer keeping Craig over Eade anyway (just at this point), subject to him wanting it badly enough and seeing how the boys perform under him during the remainder of the year. A bit on the fence with that. Believe it when i see it.

What if Jackson already knows who will be in those positions then it wouldn't be a problem. Obviously I am speculating but it could happen.

My concern is if we wait too long there won't be enough time for the players to discuss with the new coach their playing future. Also the ooc players need to c there is a future at the dees before they decide theirs.

The new coach will also have to make changes prior to the draft which again requires time

recent premiership coaches: who are wanted by nearly all clubs, & so play the aloof game.

unemployed head coaches: who are on the nose re coaching, & are desperate for any head gig.

This is part of the coach argument that doesn't sit well with me.

Williams, Roos, Malthouse etc. didn't scale any mountains. They were at clubs that won premiership/s.

It takes a lot more than a coach for success and its important to acknowledge that when selecting a new coach.

The coaches who are perceived as the best are not just good coaches but good career planners.

The perfect case in point is Ross Lyon - He jumped off a sinking ship. He's a good coach but he knew that he had no chance of success with St.Kilda, so he moved on.

If he had stayed, he'd likely be another coach on the scrap heap right now.

We should be looking at coaches that have achieved in the situation we want them to achieve in. Rodney Eade fits the bill - has had success with two troubled clubs.

Anyway, the example is not important. I'd hate to see us neglect the right person because we were intent on getting a 'premiership' coach, who might not have the experience of helping drag a side out of the rubble.

That argument is just plain wrong. Williams won a flag at a club which was new to the AFL. Sydney hadn't won a flag in something like 70 years when Roos took them to the top. Malthouse perhaps is half correct but Collingwood was a basket case when he arrived.

We should be looking at candidates that we can build a club around & have vision past there own tenure in the hot seat which Roos has shown at Sydney by creating a great culture & continued success through never bottoming out for draft picks. Whilst Eade is a proven coach I'm not sure he would leave any sort of legacy at the club after his tenure ends.

Pretty sure we will have someone that learns under Roos or Choco with the view to taking over as coach down the track when they are ready

Me too which suggests that while this coach nerds to build culture and win games and try to win a flag, it is important that they realise a major outcome of their tenure is a stable list that can maintain is hold.

Even if we don't win a flag we need to build for 10 years of sustained success, not peaking in 5 then dropping away again.

The AFL has, for all intensive purposes, taken over the MFC. The AFL alone will determine who will be Coach, President and CEO (Jackson). In my opinion this is a good thing.

The AFL/MFC have had further discussions with Roos and the MFC in conjunction with the AFL will make him a very lucrative offer which will include full power over the football department and priority or mini draft picks. The AFL/MFC are currently working on the offer after feedback from Roos and have informed Roos that the role is his if he wants it. The AFL/MFC are confident enough that they will not look at other coaches until Roos rejects the offer. I understand that the AFL/MFC feel he will likely accept the offer and consider him a better than 50/50 chance.

Make no mistake, If we land Roos it will be our Chris Judd moment (aka Carlton). I would argue this would be even bigger than Carlton's moment.

Interestingly the AFL have rejected Kennett, Stockdale and Freeman as President. All have had meetings with Demetrio, all have been told they don't have AFL support. Although the AFL can't stop these people standing and winning, the AFL has let the MFC know that getting their choice in President is part of the rescue package and if their choice does not get the role the AFL support can't be guaranteed. It is understood they have their own very high profile President in mind. Still no word on who this is.

Perhaps the pain we have been going through was necessary. A handful of wins here and there might have just delayed the inevitable. I have said before that the club had to find some way to acknowledge and address the trauma that occurred in 2011, something the club seemed clear it was not going to do. Well now it has been, at least in so far as Schwab and MacClardy are gone and the board being dismantled. I still believe the new coach needs to acknowledged what the players have gone through rather than just going the draw a line and forget the past approach. It doesn't work as the last 18 months have proven

I hope you'r right GNF about Roos. A mate and I put as much as the two bookies would allow at $7, which was $28 in total. Shows what a stupid market those bets are - free promotion fro the bookies and quoted by the media as somehow being an accurate gauge. Still $7 is way overs if you are correct and it is actually even money. Perhaps if a few demonlanders can back Roos it might make the jungle drums beat louder and influence Roosy to take the gig.

Appears the afl are putting training wheels on and won't take them off until we are well and truly ably to ride alone. I've got sources that informed me the presidency was Alan stockdale's if he wanted it after the election. That said, I feel it's important we shore up the board and president as soon as practical, for further uncertainty dragging out will be detrimental to our ability to attract sponsors and members leading in to pre season.

Just a comment on Roos and chocko, when they had success look who the assistants were. At port there was Hardwick, Clarkson, Bailey. At Sydney there was Lyon and Longmire.

I'm not saying they can't coach, and I would be wrapped if they got Roos, I just hope the records of these two reflect their own abilities, and not those of the team they had working for them.
