Bob Murphy article

Featured Replies

As I posted in another thread, the Cubs and the Red Sox share more similarities with the Demons than any other club in the AFL. By a distance.

Perhaps Robert Murphy should put up his hand and come over to us ...

Hope Brent Moloney reads that article.

Then has a good hard look at himself.

Moloney bled Red and Blue, he just knew he was getting no where under a muppet like Neeld.

Moloney hardly jumped ship to a powerhouse in search of a flag.

you maybe right. But his work ethic last year was a disgrace in relation to his team mates on the field.

Would not be averse to that idea... I have always considered Murphy and Kirk to be two of the most articulate, intelligent and grounded individuals I can recall playing the game, and was always jealous of the Swans and Dogs for having them... if we were to get an untried line coach or development coach, and as Kirk has already gone to the dockers, I would jump at Murphy in a heartbeat.

Redleg you've got to be kidding, I wish that would even remotely apply to us.

Interesting comment made by Lenny Hayes the other night when asked about leaving the club to chase ultimate success he said something along the lines of football being greater than money or even premierships.

He felt you owed a lot to the club, the volunteers and supporters the people that had come and followed you week in week out.

Neeld obviously lost Moloney in the first week, however Moloney is not without blame here. He gave us [censored] all last year and then spat it and left.

Anyway I still think Neeld stuffed up.

The Norm Smith Curse? Heard of if pal??

Ha.

He would've fitted in quite well to this years team.

Great read.

Caro should ask him how to write something decent.

Haha spot on. Murphy is a better writer than most of the footy journos out there.

Sadly yes. But Neeld has committed suicide by not replacing Moloney with a similar player.

If there was no replacement then the 2 of them needed to come to a working compromise.

They didn't, so we get smashed up weekly.

How many articles have you read?

I read a lot. I thought it was the best because of the way I felt afterwards - sad but inspired, and it gave me hope for the dees. one little step at a time.

Highlights that we shouldn't count out Rocket Eade as a potential senior coach.

I for one don't believe the Bulldogs had a top 4 list, but he got them there. The biggest thing that let Eade/Bulldogs down was relying on Johnson being their goal kicker. You can get away with it in the H&A season, but in finals, you just can't.

crap. Moloney was a one-way player that was asked to change his game and his body shape. Spat the dummy because he was reigning B&F and flat out refused.

Incapable of evolving around team needs. Good cheer leader but ultimately not a smart guy.

Right move to get rid of him.

It's a good read, but far more applicable to the MFC. RDB and Norm Smith leaving within months in '64-'65. Cue the premiership drought.

The image described by Murphy of long-scarred fans embracing in momentous joy upon their great victory, has often crossed my mind. It is this concept which we pin our hopes on. I'm not a religious man, nor am I particularly spiritual, but my unconditional support for the MFC is purely faith based. We all have to believe somewhere in ourselves that the so called "curse" will be broken.

Brisbane - you are joking aren't you? They are a superpower

The lot we have now are neither way!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
