Thought it was really awesome to see the Suns signed their young gun mini draft pick Jack Martin to a 5 year deal last week,

Obviously they see him as cornerstone of the club going forward, and have huge confidence in the kid,

I would love to see the Demons do the same thing with Jesse Hogan. If Martin is good enough for a 5 year deal already, then Jesse is good enough for 10.

Hogan is the kind of player build an entire team around.

I wonder if he would sign on for 5 years at this stage? Guess its hard to say.

Another messiah coming a part of our ongoing complez wishing hoping wanting some indivigual to fix the club and its pathetic recent perfromances

We need a plan and strategy and leadership we go forward as a group

Until that happens we wont be going anywhere

I'm hoping he will be a star but let' not get ahead of ourselves. Lets see him perform in the one's first before we offer exceptional contracts.

Unless you're Lucas Cook even a speculative tall is usually given 5 years on a list to prove his worth. I have seen enough to know Hogan will be a star in 3. If you can hook him for 5 do it but I would think a young kid in our current environment would want to know a bit more about who is coaching him beyond this year before he signed up long term.

And announce a new deal for Sylvia too asap.

He's the one I want the club to commit to and vice versa. I will lose the plot if yet another long term Demon leaves the club at the end of the year.

Contract extension for Frawley as well while we're at it.

5 year deals can be risky can't they?

I think he is going to be a Johnathan Brown 2.0 but agree that a 3 year deal depending on next years result would be a better approach.

Offering him a 5 year deal when he is only18 might send the wrong idea - that we are desperate and doubt his ability to commit to us in the future.

There have been many instances where we thought we had a star but didn't - Scully, Trenners, Morton and Watts etc.

I don't think I could take years of moaning because Hogan turned out useless and we are stuck with him for 5 year (like Jamar).

But I do think he will be a star!

We want to win a premiership in the next 10 years we need to get the signature of Jesse Hogan and James Frawley during this hard time, we can't let these boys walk.

Having said that it's too early to give Jesse hogan a 5 year deal, a two year contract extension being placed infront of him right now couldn't be the worst thing in the world though?

thanks for you input, but it has nothing to do with the topic

Hey Hoges I think it does! MFC are always waiting for someone, another star another no 1 draft pick a better coach etc etc

My point is whether Jesse is here for one year or 5 unless all else is done he will whither as many before

Anyways thanks for the critique

We can offer it to him if we like, however if I was him I would hold off and see where the club is heading. At the moment any reasonable management would not advise him to sign. Next season when the future of the club and FD is more certain would be the time, 3 or 5 we should get an extension as a sign of faith that he has a future with a club heading in the right direction.

We'll be right, we can offer Hogan the world.

Davey, Jamar, Sylvia will probably be gone by 2015.

Hoping we trade Jamar and they pick up the slack.

Delist Davey.

Keep Colin, but he'll most likely want to leave.

There aren't many other blokes coming through worthy of a top paycheck.

We have a good bunch of kids coming through, we just need to sort [censored] out by next year.

I am glad the AFL is cleaning us out and starting from scratch.

IMO the club should give him a 2-year deal and then let him walk.

It's the Melbourne way!

He is over in Perth meeting with Worsfold

Good to see our 2014 coach is meeting with our players already.

As supporters lose hope, it becomes even more important we lock Jesse in long term.

Question now is if he would want to, and would his manager advise signing long term with such a rabble?

They are rare individuals that will not waiver and sign-on for the pain. Trengove did it in the middle of issues a couple years back. Grimes did it this year.

I want him to but we have to show this boy, and Jack, and Dimitri that we are a club that will benefit their future, not just 'bank on' them as our future.

Really good point, that has been the case far too many times in the recent past.

Like the success of signing Davey for 4 years was??

What are we protecting here more, your sanity or the club?

I am not saying losing players won't hurt - it's not the end of the world, it will mark the end of Neelds though

5-Year deal for Hogan.

4-Year deal for Worsfold.

4-year deal for Shiel.

3-Year deal for Prestia.

2-Year deal for Sylvia to end 2015.

2-Year extension to Frawley to end 2016.

Now we are talking.

Watts to Carlton for pick 10 please ...

I'll be honest.

If you were Jesse Hogan's manager, and Melbourne tabled him a 5-year offer, even if it was sizeable financially, would you recommend he sign it?

Right now, that's not a certainty.

Posted

I wouldn't sign John Coleman to a 5 year contract

Ironically Coleman never made it to 100 games because of a career ending injury

We are in no position to roll the dice on long term contacts and to do so would be irresponsible

Posted

Lock him up with 4. Hell we gave Pederson 3 years so why not? Then trade watts and frawley for midfield guns is my call. It starts in the midfield.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
