The Tigers matched Geelong for more than half the game, and were also victims of some umpiring decisions non-paid and paid, that would have us screaming blue murder on Demonland for a week.

Three losses in a row to Pies, 1-point at Freo and Geelong. Are you kidding me? I dream about having a midfield that wins the ball and gets it going forward like Richmonds does.

As long as their powers hold firm to their plan, and they just tighten up a few weaknesses, they will be a gun side for years to come.

And yes, Geelong are awesome. Just don't understand the Richmond bashing.

With all due respect that means nothing right now. VFL sides would be giving us a decent run.

The point is they are still a fair way off the top sides. Their much lauded midfield went missing after halftime. By the end they had been completely outclassed.

It annoys me to no end seeing the Tigers fly ahead of us, along with North, Port..well, everyone bar GWS. So damn right I enjoy seeing them get a reality check.

With the disappointment of our club at least I can get some joy from football watching the GFC play, they are just so good. My partner is a Geelong girl and I spend a fair bit of time down there and the club is the pride of the town. Good on them.

Geelong are a good example to Melbourne that cheap gimmicks do not win premierships but years of hard work does. 'List management' as a panacea to all our ills has stuffed this club nine ways from Sunday. Sacking a coach, albeit a flawed one, to shore up the position of a meddling CEO hasn't helped either.
In 1999, Geelong took a long hard look at itself and buckled itself in for the long haul. At the end of the year, we need to do likewise.

The process would have started earlier if Tom Scully had just told the club the truth as to why he was leaving (besides the money). The process started at Geelong when Leigh Colbert told Frank Costa that he was sick of the selfish culture of Geelong and he believed it would never change. That finally made the club start to put it's house in order. It wasn't completed until Chappy and Joel Selwood told the rest of them they were sick of losing.

Nothing Geelong did tonight was particularly spectacular, but since the muppets on Channel 7 started talking about the Cats' seemingly never-ending dynasty I knew we'd see a thread about it here. It's the same with our post-match threads. Someone says something on the telly and you can bet it'll be brought up here as if it's some amazing discovery.

I love to watch Geelong play, Stevie J makes me laugh to the point of tears with some of the things he does. In a pure football sense they play the way the game is meant to be played and work hard for each other...but don't think for a minute that there is not a wealth of talent and class at the Cats.

Do I love watching Geelong because the muppetts on 7 tell me they are good. No, read my other posts on this. This Saturday night crew on 7 is a disgrace and brings the game into disrepute they make me laugh at their absurd attempts at commentary and I'm left speechless by their lack of understanding of the game at times.

I wish Darcy would shut up about the Geelong dynasty, we can see for ourselves. It won't go on for ever but they have done a better job than any other club in the modern era of the draft to stay at the top of there game.

This is a really good post Colin but can you clarify something for me? When would Joel Selwood have ever got sick of losing? Hasn't he got the best record of any player in the history of the game in terms of winning percentage?

I probably phrased that a little badly. Selwood was one of the blokes, Paul Chapman being the other, who stood up and gave the group a collective rocket after they lost to North Melbourne at Skilled in 2007. Selwood apparently said something along the lines that he came to the AFL to win. Chapman was the one who told the group he was sick of losing and sick of the selfish and lazy culture.

I'm no expert but maybe that and a few other events were the catalysts that made the group realize that the new leadership group at the club meant business.The review held at the end of the 2006 season put a new and more demanding leadership group in place. Not only did they have that performance to contend with but they also stood up to three of Geelong's best but at the time more frustrating players. Gary Ablett was doing just enough to get by on game day, Cameron Mooney was having brain fades on a regular basis and Stevie J was more interested in being the captain of the drinking team than being the captain of Geelong. Tom Harley and co. fronted each and didn't bat an eyelid. Perhaps that North game strengthened their hand in getting the under performers to pull their socks up?
