I know it's early, but.....

I reckon we could start a positive debate on what we, as a fan base, would like to see happen at the end of the year.

I know its still in the early stages of the season. But, I have been looking around at what things could be done to help Melbourne on field (instead of just ripping into every player that makes a mistake). I think, we should target players that have been in the system for 2-3 years or there abouts, that aren't breaking into their respective teams. Fringe players for example. A player that caught my attention, was Jake Melksham, from Essendon. His contract is up at the end of the year, he was from the same draft as Trengove. I reckon he could be worth a look at.

I also think there could be a few diamonds in the rough, in....

Jared Patrenko- Could really flourish if given a lot of games, has an injury history. Only 23 and I think he is a very good player.

Jared Polec- A player that was a high draft pick, very good signs early in his career, but has started to slow off. I think he could become a very very good player if he were to land at Melbourne. Only 20 years old.

Jayden Pitt- Another one like Polec, hasn't been given alot of chances over his first 3 years. Change of seen could help. Turns 21 in October.

Maverick Weller- Another one of the youngsters from Gold Coast, Could be time a few of them start looking for greener pastures.

This is just a few I think are worth a look

A few more FULL TIME development coaches would be very handy.

Neeld to stay on in 2014.

I like these names.

i have a good idea in my opinion.

So look, i think that we all agree Melbourne has a young and very talented squad. Develop your rookies and dont chase anymore (except for the top 3 pick we are going to get) and Hogan. Develop all of our young players such as Hogan, Viney, Toump, Trenners, Tappy, still Grimesy some more, Matt Jones, Kent, Terlich, Jetta, Gawn, Spencer.. get these guys to start to lead from the front and stop making Mitch and Jonesy so lonely (apart from Grimes) in that category.

Get one star, i dont care who we trade, trade Watts i dont care. But get a star (someone on the same level as Beams), do whatever you can.

Every team needs a real focal point and i dont care what any of you say, we dont have one. Clark was supposed to be, but he has spent a huge portion of his time at Melbourne in rehab.

All we are missing is someone who can win clearances and rack up possies. You will see players like Trengove, Sylvia, Grimes and Jones flourish even more with someone like Beams in the team. We need someone to carry us so eventually it can be a team performance of carrying.

It's really clear cut, players like Hogan will never develop if they dont get good delivery, as Watts never got delivery we had to stick him in the defence and it's safe to say the guy has never put in a decent tackle to save his life.

Go dees!

Finals in 2015 is my aim

Brian Royal sent packing and a midfield coach with very good credenials to come in

Bah humbug! 6 years of looking forward to pre-season for the long suffering supporter after 5 rounds. We are such a sad miserable lot who have put all our faith in a club who let everyone down year in year out.

Then at the start of each season we become the ridicule of the whole competition. Ho hum.

Might be time to go after Simon Black. Has to be close to retirement. Not sure if he's interested in coaching though.

I do not want to hear any more BS Press Conferences or Letters to the members that tell me how great the club is looking.

Tell me the truth only. I wish to know the true status of my investments.

I've been following Polec since he was drafted, and he has been cruelled by injuries and hasn't really been allowed an extended run as a result. The upside with him is huge.

I'd be willing to trade Watts for him. Some might think it would be paying overs for Polec, but we need to be realistic. We have plenty of forwards and whilst we still need to find another KPD or two, Watts has shown that he doesn't like the physical side needed to become a good defender. Our midfield needs as much talent as we can cram into it, and Brisbane need to find quite a few talls to replace their aging ones.

If we are able to bring in Polec through a trade, and then select a tough insider like Dunstan in the draft, that would give us a midfield with some hope for the future. Viney and Dunstan, along with our workhorse Jones in the thick of it, along with Toumpas, Polec and even a Blease/Kent as the outside class, it makes for a much better reading than what we have at the moment.

I think that may be all we need.. The players mentioned from you guys, are players we really should make a play for. Looking at clubs like Sydney, Hawthorn and the more successful teams... alot and i mean alot of their lists would come by way of trades. Maybe we try a different approach and follow their leads.

Don't mind a few of these names but I think Jayden’s AFL career must be in huge doubt with an early retirement likely: Fremantles jayden pitt has heart-scare

Don't mind this (although I still hold out some hope for Watts), develop the talent that we have while including one or two experienced 24yr+ and preferably 100+ gamer that lead by playing consistant high quality footy. Would love a Lenny Hayes for a year or two.

Not sure if this is in reference to Neeld's coaching press conferences or others from the board but I think Neeldy is doing the right thing in the media now. Remember round 1 2012? Neeld was roundly criticised on here and in the media for doing just that after a 41 point loss to Brisbane. If I remember correctly, he said only 4 players had "passable" games and that you could "bet on your life" that he wasn't going to be taking the same 22 to our next game. The media had a field day with it an siezed on the perception that there was/is a growing rift between the coach and senior players.

This is just a few I think are worth a look

Petrenko is Sando's favourite player and has no fitness at all. Comes on and off the field and could be career over with the rotations rule.

Pitt has been advised to retire due to a heart condition. Is weighing up the advice currently.

Mav Weller isn't good enough but I like him punching Campbell Brown at training

Melksham was pick 10ish. Hasn't starred but done nothing to tell the bombers he still isn't worth that. We'd have to offer first round or top of second to even get a reply. We might be luckier with Travis Colyer who repeatedly gets dropped from the dons.

Polec seems to be a curse of pick 4 victim (I think). I'd kick the tyres but Brisbane would still want something decent for him. I'd be wary on a first rounder or even top of second for him.

At the end of the day you often have to gamble. Richmond did with Maric, Grigg and Houli and it paid off big time they got 3 good starters. Colyer for a third round pick might be worth a look but again he's outside midfield and we need in and under the most. Maybe Lonergan from Richmond (ex Ess) rookie list would be better on our rookie list than a Couch or Magner come end of season.

We need to snare a midfield coach from a successful club. Meanwhile, can anyone tell me if we have anyone in the role of opposition analyst?

The upside with Watts is still huge too. Josh Hunt says hi. No deal.

Melksham butchers the ball regularly, but can find it. Colyer is Sam Blease with less upside. No thanks.

Players I'd like to approach are..... Richard Douglas, Luke Shuey, Clinton Jones, James Kelly and many more...... Not much chance though...... But they're the players I'd like to see in the red and blue....

Brian Royal replaced by Cameron Ling.....

Keep Jack Watts.....

Also I'd like to see the back of Peter Jackson.... IMO he is apart of AFL infiltration into our club..... Which is only going to end in relocation....

Whether you agree with the inference I think we should at least acknowledge that we are only in this situation because of our own doing.

I think we'd be wise to play nice with the AFL. The more amiable we appear the more they can make life easier for us. If they decide to make life hard I think you'll be flying to our 'home' games.

disagree, it's part of stabilisation and continued existence.

the reality is we will likely struggle to be an attractive destination of players.

fortunately i think we've nailed the past two years thanks to clark, hogan, and hopefully dawes. we just need our draft picks from the last couple of years to work out for us, and make sure we nail the next few.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
