At about Round 3 last year I expressed I didn't think Neeld had to emotional intelligence to be a senior coach - pulls all the wrong strings at the wrong time - falling out with all senior players, constant referal to "good clubs like collingwood", making Trengove skipper in his 3rd year, can't flex his game style to suit to suit his team on the park - all signs of a bloke that can't see the wood from the trees. I was called a Troll at the time, but I think a few of you might to coming around.

Anyway, I firmly believe that Neeld's job is in strife. The only thing that might save him is we cant afford the payouts. That being said, I think the Club should firmly consider giving Chocco Williams the senior job. Premiership coach, that in 13 years at Port had a winning % of 57%. Consistent record of challenging players attitudes, getting under their skin and developing talent. I could see him finally getting the best out of blokes like Silvia, Garland, Watts and Frawley - that have been going through the motion for the past 2 years.

As far as payments go, Neeld's contract is up this year. It really is make or break time.
I think as far as getting a new coach goes, we would need a new admin for that. This bunch has a track record of failure and we need someone who can stand up as a cleanskin and make a sales pitch.

Chopping and changing coaches like this will see us end up like Fitzroy.

We are the old Richmond of the 90s, and we think becoming more and more like them is somehow the solution.

We've been the Richmond of the 90's from the late 60's and still going.

Neeld has tasted success he was an Assistant Coach at Collingwood when they won the flag, so has Leigh Brown, so has Neil Craig......gee how many more ridiculous posts.......IT WAS THE PLAYERS WHO LET MARK NEELD DOWN.........i would have backed him to the hilt if he had hit a few of them

This is a VERY logical post.

Neeldys body language wasn't sh*t at 3 quarter time. Neeldy didn't whimp out like Pedo in the middle of the G. I could go on but I would get too freakin angry and hulk out.

Even though the players were not very good, i believe its the game plan.

Its too complicated and looks silly and hard to implement.

The zoning off was farcical , Everytime a port forwrd went for a mark his opponent was 5 metres away.

How do you know that was the game plan?.....Listen to what Neeld says at the presser....he gave the written exam in the rooms after...but didn't see the practical carried out

No gameplan can be successful without effort and intensity. Our players do not put in simple as that. If the players put in we could sift through the gameplan. The fact is we don't know if Neeld can coach because the players don't give him a chance.

Yep.

Like when Frawley just let Hartlett run off. Totally uninterested.

Gillies' "own behind" would have been hilarious had it happened to some other team. I'd never seen anything quite like that before.

Its pretty obvious to anyone that knows anything about footy that the backline wer told to zone off

Just an observation on Williams. I went to the Carlton-Richmond game on Thursday night with a mate and watching the 1/4 time, 3/4 time huddles, Williams spends the entire time walking around to the groups, yelling constructively, at particular players in his path and keeps them on edge. Everyone is on their toes in that group of players. Chalk and cheese compared to my observations on Sunday.

Last year I was savaged by posters on this site for pointing out the bleeding obvious. I will state it again.

Neeld is missing a major skill required to have success as a senior coach. This is the skill to be able to get the most out of your players. Neeld has no ability to create the confidence and self belief required to be an AFL coach. The number of players who play as a shadow of the players they were prior to last season in staggering. Virtually all players have gone backwards despite them being mostly low draft picks, young and up coming. I watch as our x players who were moved on suddenly find there lost ability at new clubs and point to this as further evidence. At the same time our recruits from other clubs suddenly struggle to get a kick, struggle to play.

I said it last year and I will say it again now. Neeld is not our man. He may be tough and smart, he may have a good footy brain but he is missing the skill of installing self belief and confidence while still being tough. He must be sacked ASAP. The perfomances since he became coach have been beyond appauling. Come season end we will see another wave of our better players asking to be traded or leaving through free agency if we don't get someone in who can install the most important thing in football........ self belief. Further we will be unable to trade for any quality recruit as the MFC will continue to seen as poison for any players career. We must get rid of Neeld before more damage is done.

On a side issue on Watts: Watts was given a hard defensive tag by port and was smashed. Watts is our most skilled player and a player who has the ability and experiance to play all over the ground. I was disgusted that Neeld did not move Watts who was struggling to deal with the first hard tag of his career. He should have been moved onto the ball or up to the wing for a while, or even given a stint at CHF. Alternatively Watts could have been asked to tag a player with his tag also following him thus creating a spare MFC player. Anything but wasting his tallents at CHB with a hard tag while he is being smashed.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
