Another Port goal Officially embarrassing now!

what do you think is going to happen when you throw all these senior players who have little or nothing to do with casey into their team. This is nothing more than match practise for certain players and I couldn't give a stuff about the result

the score is of no concern it's all about Mitch and the two jacks

Yep that sums up my thoughts exactly. Throw in Blease as well. As long as they all come up healthy I'm happy.

Fair go. Casey has 9 AFL listed players on the park and they're getting towelled up by 7 goals now.

I appreciate all you do for us Demonlanders KC, but am I wrong? I realise there are nine Demon players out there, but seven of them are 22 and under.

Viney right in the middle of the quater time scuffle flying the flag. Great to see.

Clark and Trenners perhaps lacking some match fitness wouldn't be surprised of they missed round 1.

Blease is ready to go as is Viney.

Who cares about the result, VIney sounds like he is going well, least we got a kid who has a dip this year.

Nathan Jones will be happy, he doesn't have to have a crack on his lonesome.

Blease has a go as well, hopefully he starts round 1, we need these types up and running.

Half Time and it was a 9 goal second quarter to Port who monstered the Scorps physically with their bigger bodies and more superior ball movement.

Casey helped by a goal after the siren from Kyle Matthews.

Port Melbourne 11.5.71 to Casey Scorpions 5.5.35

Thanks KC

I can't believe some on here have added a VFL scratch match to their wrist slashing file.

Why?...I thought u knew Demonland could be renamed "Everything I hate about MFC" ....they are not at the game, can't see what is going on, but hey that doesn't stop them, Clark is playing his first game in nearly nine months, if he gets through unscathed that will do me

Trenners started very well but didn't notice him much in 2nd These players have rotated off at regular intervals so don't read too much into names not being mentioned Mitch plays hard, bruising contested football so he is worth his weight, even with modest stats

It's understood that Casey doesn't have as good a list of VFL players but that should be compensated for by the fact that Casey can use a number of AFL listed players available to it while Port can't. Therefore, Port is entitled to spend up a bit more. You really can't expect much from Casey's VFL players when most of the AFL listed guys are just going.

I expect a turn around in 3rd with Casey kicking with it Port have already played three practice matches Casey is made of of at least 10 who have had next to no match play Don't write the shared arrangement off just yet About 350 in attendance Very overcast but no rain to date

Good ploy by port to kick into the breeze first as the first quarter would most likely result in players just trying to get some touch, hence our not so good first quarter. Sad about our second though, sounds like the players were not even in the contest.

I realise this. I'm just wondering about something that you alluded to in a post last week: Why did Casey not recruit some experienced VFL standard footballers for their list this year? Was it a directive from MFC? Or were there other reasons?

Taggert is built like a brick shite dwelling these days and has been ok Blease really dug in the last 10 minutes and had a rhg I want to see 2nd half before I summarize As you can imagine, it's very difficult to type on iPhone while trying to watch the game with players who have numbers that don't equate to anything I have already filed away!

Scrappy first quarter but casey were on top I thought. Second quarter was very poor with Port completely dominating the play.

Melbourne players:

Viney - clearly the pick of the Melbourne players and the only one who looked capable of driving casey forward in the second quarter.

Clark - limited opportunities, especially in the second quarter. But moving well and freely which is the main thing.

Trengove - playing out wide on the wing. Barely sighted.

Taggert, Kent, Fitz - all pretty quiet. Kent does look good when he gets the ball though.

Blease - some flashes of good play but not consistently involved in the game.

Jordie - a few touches in close but fairly quiet overall.

There are lots of rotations with players coming on and off all the time so it's probably hard to pick up the rhythm of the game.

But there is little to excite at the moment other than a good effort from Viney and Clark moving with freedom.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
