Haha of course. All the guys who haven't played a game yet. Surprised you're not bagging Hogan for being a star yet seeing so many other AFL players were stars at 17...

I love the talent of Blease, love Mitch, love Howe, love Trengove, love Frawley, love Tommy McDonald. But my real interest is the club's success.

Btw, you're a half-wit, Stu.

Oh and Hogan will be a star and you'll NEVER hear me bag him. He has a crack. A star, I tell you.

He's a straight ahead player, but lacks the nuances and craft of the best smart mids.

Captain sideways.

I'm not a fan to be honest.

Grimes kicks the ball out on the full because he has to kick around and over on-coming opponents when he does not have the pace to run around them.

Hahaha you guys are tripping over yourselves to try and bag our captain. Is he straight ahead, sideways, or around and over? FMD.

How is saying, "He's a straight ahead player, but lacks the nuances and craft of the best smart mids." "bagging" out a player ?

it's called an opinion, fool.

...and again in English please BH?

Edited.

You're the type that would love Labor's proposed anti free speech laws, wouldn't you ?

I'm going to have to ignore you, Stu. You say nothing that adds anything to this forum. You just [censored] and complain.

I was laughing at the 3 posters trying to bag out our captain whilst putting forward 3 completely different versions of how he plays.

But I wouldn't expect you to get that as it involves other people and the world revolves around you and you alone.

That's about right, makes a very solid, potentially excellent half back.

He has to keep his feet more. Many people regard Frank as "elite"

I haven't seen it yet. Last Saturday was very quiet.

I totally agree.Grimesy is not elite. Not having a dip but he's just not an elite player.

Someone - maybe AoB - described the best mids as "360 degree" - that their grip of the game and ability to pursue options and work space happens all around them. You can see that with Pendlebury and Mitchell. Grimes not so much I guess.

The "360 degree" player is an interesting concept. At the moment I don't really see any on our list. I assume that we mean players who have fantastic spacial awareness, good lateral movement, can change pace to avoid being caught, and can dispose creatively, by hand or foot, in amongst all of the chaos of contested stoppages. As much as I admire Jones and think he is fantastic value for us, he is not a true "360". The players I am thinking of appear to create space around them. Davey, at his best could, but was hampered by his need to kick on his left. Jurrah certainly could, and was blessed with that amazing ability to accelerate laterally. Maybe Toumpas will, but we haven't seen enough of him yet. Viney looks a little more straight ahead, but again we need to see more of him.

It's not all about speed either. Think of Jobe Watson, Diesel Williams, Sam Mitchell, Josh Kennedy. Gary junior certainly has it in spades, plus a turn of speed and power. Cyril's got heaps.

The Richmond, Carton, Swans, Geelong, Adelaide, Collingwood and WCE have all got at least a couple in their midfield lineups. We have some "good ordinary" but undersized "grunters" at the moment and I don't see us doing much September business until we have those couple of class mids backed by a solid midfield tail.

Do you ever just post your opinion on a topic and leave it at that? Is your interest footy, or is it footy fans? Seems to me every post you make is directed at other posters and their opinions. Are you lacking social interaction in the real world? If so I'm happy to throw you a bone and reply to you here, should make your day.

There are a lot of interesting posters on here, I even love the ones I hate.

But you're in that boring and predictable group, I usually skim over what you have to say or skip it all together. When you directly quote me I have to read all of your mind numbing garbage, I'd appreciate in the future if you didn't quote me, save me the hassle and save yourself the embarrassment.

That's about the silliest thing I have read recently. Not liking the opinion of others can be said of people on the left, right, centre or any flaming where. Perhaps you should keep your right-wing politics out of footy discussions. Pop them in when there is a discussion of the political aspects of AFL, but the topic here is Grimes.

Why would I give a mail order bride my opinion when I'd be busy giving her the Siberian Express?

You didn't challenge my opinion. If you think that comment was a challenge, it may be you that's challenged.

Flaming is the key word there Sue. BH is a terrific content generator. A few lines and of people go - particularly the usual suspects who seem completely unable to stop taking the bait (i'm not talking about you Sue btw - you can probably guess who i mean, you just have to read any thread where BH makes one of his chest beating egocentric pronouncements and look at who bites)

Ok, I'll explain it to you... Three different posters who were writing off our captain gave 3 totally different "expert opinions" on how he plays. To me, that just sums up the mindset of so many here who are so quick to gleefully put down our young players that they "trip over themselves" trying to find a way to justify it.

My non-melbourne supporting mates opinions of our players are a good unbiased opinion of which players are any good. They all rate grimes, perhaps a little more than they should becasue of his consistant dream team scores, but theres no doubting that he is a good player

I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with me. I wouldn't have been on this forum for over ten years if I did.

My opinion of Grimes was not directed at YOU and it WAS considered. You then pipe up with: "Wow, BH judging a guy on a practice game in 35 deg heat and masses of interchanges, you get better and better don't you". You then have the temerity to say to ME, "You certainly don't like people disagreeing with you.".

That's where you and your ilk make me laugh. I have no problem with diverse views. I often disagree with what I read, but I rarely attack a poster just for their view. But any negative comment and you come waltzing in with your misplaced nobleness. And you're then offended if you get a crack back having flamed the other person FIRST. Hysterical.

Now listen closely...

As I said, you hate negative opinions and you love positive opinions. That's about as brain dead as it gets. While you're happy watching a player give his best unfortunately that does nothing for me. I want success and those that can deliver it wearing red and blue. If players aren't good enough I don't want them at the club. Turn the list over. How many years have I been saying that ? And thank God it finally happened. I respect players that have a crack, but if they aren't good enough I have no interest in them.

My interest is the club, not individual players. Too many posters seem to have this out of kilter, which is why they get offended when they read any negativity. It's the club's success that interests me. I'll get enjoyment out of individual players, some more than others, but the club's interest is paramount. AFL footy is a ruthless business and it's the uncompromising clubs that succeed. You're prepared to compromise your own club with the attitude, "oh well, if he's good enough great, but if not that's OK. He gave his all". It's pathetic really.

Gee BH insulting you, you must be very thin skinned although you don't mind handing out do you...'brain dead' 'fool' just a couple of examples., you are allowed your opinion ,the same as we are allowed to question it, my 'opnion' was you were wrong in your 'opinion' of Jack Grimes....having seen some of the diatribes you have launched against other players, I assumed this was just another one

as I said in another post it must terrible for you being so alone atop your lofty pedestal whilst us mere mortals can only worship at your feet when you decide to impart some wisdom

Ruthless business...this is footy, nobody dies....eeekkk heaven forbid

.I am not compromising anything, especially the Club... I don't work/play/coach etc at the club so I cannot influence anything, apart from maybe those so called journalists at the Age who read this board looking for non stories...(Hi! Caroline)

I support all the players whilst they are on the list, it is pretty pointless criticising them on this board, coz they don't read it so they are oblivious to the criticism, so it will have none of the influence you hope it will

Sums up 'Land and MFC supporters in general doesn't it? We've copped it for so long and we're so depressed. Other supporters often rate our players (the good ones at least) much better than we do. Is it our expectations or our disappointment with the last 6 years that cause it do you think? Winning games is the great cure all, but geez I'm really sick of how much effort some people who apparently support the Dees go to to bag out our players, admin, and club in general.

I agree with you DemonWA but I don't think he is a midfield player.

I think he is being used there because we have bugger all alternatives.

To trip over myself I'd need to contradict myself. What anyone else said about Grimes has nothing to do with me.

Your tripping theory is idiotic, there are varying opinions on every single topic ever created, so the whole world is constantly "tripping over themselves" according to you.

Stop battling everyone Stue, (may I call you Stue? A grown man calling themselves Stuie just doesn't sit right with me) you're just not very good at it.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
