INJURY LIST

Melbourne

Skipper Jack Trengove (ankle), forward Mitch Clark (foot) and young ruckman Max Gawn (hamstring) are three Demons you can definitely draw a line through for the NAB Cup. The Demons play Richmond and North Melbourne on February 22 at Etihad Stadium. They've been drawn to play in the first two matches of the evening, therefore avoiding the hour-long break in the middle. Football manager Josh Mahoney anticipates that most players on the Melbourne list, including several draftees, will get a run over the four-week period. Mahoney nominated defender Tom McDonald and running defender Dan Nicholson as the standouts of the pre-season. Melbourne will have a match simulation session on Friday ahead of the NAB Cup.

Nothing new or startling there.

I am presuming Clark and Trengove will be OK for Round 1?

I don't think you can presume that - they're both on track to return at around that time but my understanding is that the club is treating both players' recoveries (and that of Maxy) conservatively. If they need an extra week or two then so be it.

Touch a very big lump of wood but surely this is by far the best position we've been in terms of injury coming into a season for a long long time (touching wood again!)

Never presume anything.

Very likely to be late starters for the 2013 campaign. Conservative approach will be taken with them until 100%. They've missed a big bulk of fitness and preparation. Clark has only just started running laps.

May not see them until at least rounds 6-8.

The nature of both injuries make it hard to determine an estimate. And how they respond to increase in workload.

Fwiw, I would be comfortable in not seeing them until mid season, knowing they will need a big chunk of time to get back to full fitness.

I agree with you WJ.

When asked about them at the AGM Neeld gave a Coach Speak answer.

I walked away from the meeting thinking we will not see them till May.

Are you presuming that ?

BH see my comment above.

If thay play round 1 it will be the best comback since Lazarus

Both have had serious foot injuries Clark no running for 8 months and Trengove none for two months.

When it is safe to start running they are both going to take 2 months to catch up.

If Mitch is not OK for round 1, who will be CHF, Pederson, Sellar, or Fitzpatrick (or Watts)?

I'm okay with leaving Mitch for as long as required - the Lisfranc is one of the worst injuries a footballer can have. Took a year out of Richo's career and ended Croad's.

If we get him back, ready to go, even if it's as late as round 15 or 16 but without re-injury I'd much prefer that.

I was going to make a similar post the other day B'man. I believe this is so. I am also touching wood.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
