It's a sad and tragic story for all concerned including the victims of Liam's crime. I hope all concerned can find peace and that Liam can turn his life around. Nothing more to say at this stage really.

The tragedy is that the magistrate did not allow the Yuendumu community to resolve the original problem in their own way however barbaric and ill logical that may have seemed to us. A ritual spearing of the guilty party was preferable to the fracturing of the community we have seen since. The outcomes have been far worse. Liam as a tribal elder was always going to get drawn into the mess, unfortunately he has been involved in a litany of domestic problems as well since going back to NT.

i hope he serves his time and can make a new start.

Very few things in life are more frustrating than wasted talent.

He could have been anything.

Yes I remember going to Princess Park in 2009 to see him in the VFL to see what all the talk was about this wizard from Yuendumu. He kicked 5 that day against the Bullants.it was a brillant display. A few weeks later he debuted for the Dees and played another 5 or so games where we saw a player doing things I had never seen before. He did not take so much as take high marks but rather plucked the ball out of the air which he did spectacularly in a game against the Saints.

I remember my sole wish for season 2010 was for Jurrah to play 20 games so we could all see someone really special and unique. Stupid wish of course as he was injured early and never got going that season as I remember it. Oh we'll add him to the list of Demons who never reached their potential.

My wife says that a white person committing the same offences would not have gone to gaol.

Can we prove her wrong?

She's an idiot

And now he's going to wind up a Magpie :P

I don't think Buckley would take the risk, he's trying to sort out his list and doesn't need any more distraction.

That's ridiculous

He's committed a whole bunch of serious crimes in a very short period of time, he has gotten off super easy if you ask me

Agree. He's been given a slap on the wrist with a six month sentence almost entirely suspended. I would have preferred him to go away for longer. It might help to straighten him out.

I dare say that white, black, purple, pink or yellow, if you do as Liam has done, you get time.

The only reason Jurrah wasn't in earlier IMO was due to this case being in the public eye - hence it gets more attention.

Liam had more chances than most indigenous citizens to prove to the courts that he was trying to rehabilitate himself - and he failed dismally.

Jurrah is very much a danger to society and thankfully he was locked up before someone got killed, hopefully he rehabilitates himself in Jail, so he causes no further harm to others.

all very well when the community is as One, & someone steps out of line, but when the community is split, what then??? you don't have a consensus, but you have opposing views, thats how wars, or civil wars happen...

or it could just be a time of troubles?

His life completely feel apart when he decided to leave Melbourne, and I don't mean just the club. I understand that he wanted to be close to his family and all that but so much of this could have been avoided. Such a sad story that shouldn't have come to this. Let's hope that the two families can somehow move on from this terrible situation.

No it's not, all that matters in life is your health

Yep, life is only about Maslow's first heirarchy.

Jurrah's gone from being a star footballer lighting up the MCG and taking mark of the year to being incarcerated. That's a tragic downfall in anyone's language.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
