I suppose this will probably end up in "Other Sports" but, at this time of the year, its worthwhile reflecting on how other teams bearing the name Melbourne are burning it up in their respective competitions.

The Melbourne Renegades are undefeated and on top of the BBL table followed by

The Melbourne Stars who have lost only one game and that was against the Melbourne Renegades.

And if you think the BBL is Micky Mouse stuff then let's look at how the Melbourne Demons are travelling in the Premier District cricket competition. After comfortably disposing of Fitzroy-Doncaster yesterday, the Demons are way out on top:

Melbourne 62 1.832

Prahran 49 1.407

Ringwood 47 1.404

Carlton 43 1.076

Richmond 41 1.789

Dandenong 41 1.458

St Kilda 40 1.283

Melb Uni 37 1.116

Fitz Donc 32 1.105

Geelong 32 0.835

Frank Pen 28 0.808

Camb Magpies27 0.933

Foot-Edgewate27 0.903

North Melb 26 0.726

Casey-SM 21 0.675

Haw-Mon Uni 8 0.733

Essendon 8 0.617

Northcote 5 0.508

In other sports, Melbourne is on top of the Lawn Bowls competition ladder.

With all that going for it, surely its only a matter of time before the Melbourne Football Club follows suit and claims its rightful spot on top of the table.

* I discount the Melbourne Tigers in the basketball for their obvious connections with striped animals.

How is the MCC Royal Tennis team going?

The A League game last night was a cracker.

Would have been hot work running for 90+ minutes.

Great to see the Heart lose in extra time. They shoul relocate to Geelong.

You may be correct OD. But, at this time of year, we are all philosophers, especialy when viewing the world through the "truth machine" ie the bottom of a wine glass.

I picked you as a mead drinker .

Or one of those smug Cider brewers .

You're a bitter and twisted individual OD if you have issues with some light hearted discussion on Melbourne clubs.

I can see that you would have problems with a title like "Melbourne reigns supreme" so why don't you just slink back to wishing the club ill on the Bailey thread?

Oh lighten up if you cannot see that this was having a little joke at my own expense I feel sorry for you.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
