Just reading the B & F results in the club magazine and noted that only 1 player in the top 20 is no longer at the Dees, Jared Rivers.

In the next 18 places, 10 players for various reasons are gone, including Beamer, Bate, Green , Bartram, Morton, Martin, Bennell, Petterd, Jurrah and Gysberts.

Then you can add Cook, Lawrence, Sheahan and Williams who did not play seniors.

It has been said on here a few times that the players who have departed did not have great contributions in 2012 and that their loss, if anything, will be neglible going forward. Not seeking to denigrate anyone but purely as a statistic of output there is a factual basis for the comment.

That of course is what you hope happens each year, that the ones you lose are the ones with the least impact on the team.

It is just interesting of course, since the Coaches give the votes, that the B & F is such a good barometer of who will remain the next year.

Surprise surprise.

The club awards more votes to the players that do their jobs. Fancy that.

That should make Sylvia very nervous given he has NEVER finished inside the top 5 in a B&F in 8 years.....

Trapper was similar 2 top 10 results in 10 years!! A first and third.

The Blight story about looking at players who consistently perform poorly when team's get beaten is still the best gauge I reckon...

I think the penny dropped in the second half of the season for Colin and I trust that he realises that now that he's nearing the end of career, he needs to work damn hard to ensure that he's left his legacy in the game.

Jared Rivers was a great servant in his time at the club and I hope that he qualifies for life membership. However, I think he had done his dash at Melbourne. As a tall in defence, there was a log jam in place waiting to take his space. We know their names - Rivers would also struggle to become a forward with our new recruits. He made the right move seeking greener pastures elsewhere.

You usually contribute really good stuff, but is there any chance you could respond without twisting the thread to talk about Colin Sylvia? Did the same thing with Morton every second time you posted...

It probably is a bit of a broken record for sure but in the context of this thread it is about players who don't perform in the Bluey. Col is one of those. TJ was another. I don't think that is twisting. I thought it fair enough.

And Morton, well the proof of the pudding is the pudding as they say.....

And in the end I am agreeing with the OP. Those players that don't score well in the Bluey are clearly not performing to their coaches expectations. Emma Quayle's article showed us how little we know of the inner workings of the club. The coaches live and breathe their players performance every day. Col's results in the Bluey are a fair reflection of Col's performance unlike some of the sycophantic 'he is gonna be a champion one day if he only he could have a pre-season' type post...

Don't worry about Sylvia being the goods! This year he will surprise everyone!

I would love to believe you, because he is one of my favourites. But I have been reading that same line since 2004.

Me too. Some great games and then gone missing.

Myth.

Agreed! Col is just lazy and self absorbed -has suited himself as to how hard he tried over the journey

Wouldnt be disappointed if he also departed. Im tired of watching him to be honest

I'm waiting, waiting that is to see the talent he's supposed to possess.

And I have been since his first game!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
