Now, I happened to see an Australian fieldsman deliberately concede a boundary to his South African opponent this afternoon. Surely, this is yet another form of 'tanking' and will have to be investigated. This evening, I heard a little rumour that the Australian Cricket Board of control has handed the enquiry over to the AFL and Mr Clothier who is an 'expert in this particular area. The player concerned is likely to receive a ten match ban and a personal fine of $20,000 .

NBA, NFL and NHL are a goldmine for outrageous tanking. Even the NBA lottery doesn't stop teams rorting the system and playing utter hacks to try and maximise their chances of getting pick #1.

soccer and cricket teams frequently deliberately play for a draw and acknowledge it publicly

this is not doing everything to win

may not be quite the same thing but is still "not trying to win"

Interesting development. Gregg Popopvich rested his starting line up for a game against the Heat. Case could be made for managing a couple of the older bodies, but David Stern has just fined the Spurs $250 000 for "resting players in a manner contrary to the best interests of the NBA".

Think it's the first time I've seen an professional sports club penalised for this, and I wonder if it will be looked at in the context of the tanking conversation? For the record, the Heat beat the Spurs 105 - 100.

It may be time to 'Lotterise' the whole AFL Draft, & each Rnd, a new lottery... with a 'slight weighting', for the lower ladder finish position.

Tanking is all relative, though. If you intentionally play to maximise your chances of winning the next game and you do this repeatedly over the course of a few seasons, you have tanked your premiership chances.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
