Viney vs Wines

Featured Replies

Simple question for discussion, who is actually the better prospect among the two?

My assumption has been that Viney was the man - but given he wasn't nominated until pick 7(?) and Wines is touted to go (to us) at pick 4, is there an argument to say otherwise?

Both are old fashioned, hit the pack hard, win the football types - but who has done it better?

It's a good question, and whilst I've seen more of Viney, I honestly don't know. They are both inside hard nuts and Jack appears to be quicker. My assumption, like yours has also been that Viney was the man, but I reckon there would be an argument to say otherwise. From what I've seen of Wines he maybe a more composed (with more time) type player.

Both similar hard at it inside type ball winners, both rated in the top 8 of the draft.

Hard to make a call sight unseen without 20/20 hindsight.

Which one has been in more trouble?

Both like a one ton ute with serious grunt.

We can use at least two utes. What does it really matter ?

I would have thought that Wines would have the potential to be the superior player due to his height. If they are both ferocious on-ballers, but one can drift forward and take marks......

Edit: Wines has 10 cm and 10 kilos on Viney...

lets just say theyre salt n pepper....go together like a horse and carraige..etc etc etc

each on own...very bloody handy.. but

well we all know what damage Park Lane and Mayfair do !! ( might take some a whiles to get that one lol )

essence.. sum is greater than the parts. and fmd...look at the parts !!

We really arent going to recognise this team !!

But then to counter that, Viney has better skills and is quicker and more agile. I'd rate Viney higher because of that.

Indeed. Time will tell I guess. I'll settle for them both being equally awesome.

I would have to say Viney, he was been developing with MFC for a year now.

I think one thing is certain provided Wines is drafted.

If there is a scrap and one of them is in it, the other will not be far behind carrying flying the flag. These two are already capable of holding their own in that regard.

I realise that some of the other threads speak about how O'Rourke might be a better option given his perceived superior skills but, the idea of hard as nails onballers, stoppage specialists, ferocious tacklers and fearless competitors just really floats my boat.

I would be a very happy Dee's supporter to see these two young men both wearing the Red and Blue next season and feeding off one-another.

Who is the better player? I'm not sure. But the two of them together will foster a culture of high performance that Neeld is striving for. Neeld knows that and it is why I'm convinced we will take Ollie Wines at #4.

Ed: for the purposes of a mixed metaphor/analogy of which I should have known better.

I totally agree Steve. I think there is an enormous upside to having two close mates who sound like they have been pushing the other for years. The fact they are both mids is also a plus as they will be playing side by side. Warrior types that Neeld loves and these two boys will fly the flag for each other should it become necessary. I am positive that if they can get him they will.

Exactly why I would say wines is currently better!

Very hard to say at this stage but from what I've seen Viney seems to have that burst speed & looks to spread quickly from the contest. Wines is obviously a threat going forward as he is a decent grab and finishes well. I honestly can't separate them at this point.

I actually think Wines is a tad better.

But who cares, if we get both..

Cannot wait for the "explosions" that are going to eventuate between these two guns out of the centre.

Gives me shivers down my spine

let me see, I'll take a 'chance', do I get $200.00 ?

Wines "vs" Viney??? how about Wines "&" Viney ?

Lets just pray to the great injury fairy to bugger off from these blokes for their whole career .

I actually think Wines is a tad better.

But who cares, if we get both..

Why ?

Viney is quicker, a better kick, a better sidestep, harder at the contest...

As i said, why ?

Becuase i am not sure where i read it, but Wines has exceptional disposal and i read that it was his speciality.

But i think im just comparing apples with apples

2013, scully receives floating handball well outside the pack away from the scary contest, from the left at full tilt viney, from the right wines, bang! Trenners mops up to grimey, who hits Clark at chf, feeds off to Rodan who dances 3, then puts it down dawesys throat!

I don't want to split them. Circa 2015 and beyond ....... the best midfield duo in the AFL ........ that would do me nicely thanks very much (who wouldn't want J. Selwood & Mitchell heading up their mids?). Fingers crossed that Wines comes our way!

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
