Robert Flower is the most skilful player to ever put on a Melbourne Jumper

Sean Wight was completely fearless

Ricky Jackson had blistering speed

When flower got the ball in the backline the crowd would go nuts as he would start off on a magical weaving run towards goal leaving intended tacklers in his wake

Ricky Jackson in one pocket and the Hilton hotel in the other!

RJ was good but not to be metioned alongside Flower ,Schwartz ,RDB ,Lyon etc.

So many players but to pick just one...Flower. The only truly super elite player I have seen in the Red and Blue. I they didnt share the Victoria state captaincy he would have been captain every year he played.

He was magical to watch and even today i doubt anyone could tag him out of a game. As stated could play all over the field and loved the MCG erupt when he got the ball in one of our darkest days...

Flower, for mine. And if I could do a second clone, I would clone him again. And for a third, a toss-up between Barassi and the Ox of 1994.

One of the most remarkable things about Flower was the little things he did, and his consistency in doing them. I remember an old photo of Flower shepherding for someone, and Robbie looked like a stick holding back a beach ball. Nowadays he would be a lot better protected, but in the 70's and 80's he was often injured because of his light build. Yet he never whinged, and kept coming back and doing the team things over and over again. How Peter Moore finished ahead of him in the 1984 Brownlow will remain forever one of life's great mysteries (and injustices, IMHO).

Ivor Warne-Smith - 2 Brownlows and a runners-up . Could play just about anywhere on the ground . Captain-coach . Represented Victoria on numerous occasions . Norm Smith's right hand man ...

In more modern times ....Flower followed by Wells ... love to see these 2 running around in today's footy ...

Barassi as well of course . If they retrospectively awarded 'Norm Smith Medals' he could have snagged at least 2 of them .

    Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields.     Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was.
