First Delistings Announced

Can someone with more brain power than me today work out assuming all others get contracted and 2 of nicholshon, evans, magner and couch are upgrade how many spots that leaves us on our list for the draft?

I hope we dont elevate Magner and Couch. Keep Magner as a rookie but not Couch.

Its a good question Red.

The delistings seem accurate, and few surprises.

I don't undertand the love for Williams and the dislike of Davis. I saw a lot of Casey in 2012 and Davis can at least play really good footy at VFL level. Not once did Williams impress, although I thought he was a good rookie pick-up in the preseason, being so big and strong.

Sad about Bate and Petterd. At their best they are both decent footballers. Both will find another home, unless Petterd has some poor training/application reputation.

I thought the predicted 10 - 13 delisting/changes would be too many and we have ended up with 15. Neeld was not impressed with what he found here last year, was he! Preseason is going to be very interesting this year. I will try and get down to Aami on Monday to have a look. It will look and feel very different to last year.

Not really suprised with any of those. Clear skies ahead.

Agree with all changes to date in the off season, some more than others but I give Neeld and co my full support.

So that's 11 off the primary list already plus another 3 off the rookie list.

We have added 5 players via trades and free agency and will be using picks 4, 26, 49 and 53 in the draft plus probably 2 rookie upgrades which gives 11 back onto the list that we have cleared. In addition we will probably be using a PSD which leaves one more spot to be delisted.

Due to Green being on the veteran's list and neither Jamar nor Davey meeting the requirements, that means we will need to declare two more delsitings if using a PSD selection and two rookie upgrades

How are Jetta and Couch still on the list?

Because both of these guys do something that those delisted guys don't. Do you want to know what that is? THEY HAVE A F#*KIN CRACK !!!!

Retires/FA/Trades: Gysberts, Morton, Green, Moloney, Rivers, Martin

Senior delists: Bate, Bennell, Petterd, Cook, Jurrah

Rookie delists: Sheahan, Williams, Lawrence

I think that gives us 34/40 on the Senior list:

Jones***, Bartram, Watts, Frawley, Trengove, Clark, Sylvia, McKenzie, Dunn, Grimes

Blease, Strauss, Garland, McDonald, Macdonald, Sellar, Tapscott, Davey, Gawn, Howe

Jetta, Jamar, Davis, Spencer, Taggert, Bail, Tynan, Fitzpatrick

Additions: Viney, Barry, Dawes, Pedersen, Byrnes, Rodan

4/4 on the Rookie list:

Nicholson, Evans, Couch, Magner

Hogan*

That gives us 6 open slots for delisted FA, rookie elevations and draft.

*** Fixed the missing B&F winner ...

Very well explained.

I'm happy with all of this. No complaints at all about any of these players going, they were all given their chances. Step up or step out!! I love it!!

Morton

Gysberts

Cook

Bate

What a waste of picks inside pick 15.

Add other first rounders McLean, Smith, Molan

At least the Rodent delivered compensation that will be twice as good as his output.

Because Jetta and Couch are great trainers and have a genuine red hot go at the ball. Both Neeld and Craig love these attributes. Jetta has been dogged with injuries and we have seen little of his best.

We could lose Couch without too much sleep, but Jetta has a bit of mongrel and dare about him that our best 22 lacks. I had him in my best 22 until the acquisition of Shannon Byrnes. Byrnes, Jetta and Rodan might be fighting for the same place.

Out:

Brad Green, Jared Rivers, Brent Moloney, Matthew Bate, Ricky Petterd, Jamie Bennell, Liam Jurrah, Lucas Cook, Cale Morton, Stef Martin, Jordan Gysberts. (Jai Sheahan, Leigh Williams and Kelvin Lawrence)

In:

Chris Dawes, Cam Pedersen, Dom Barry, Shannon Byrnes, David Rodan, Jack Viney, pick 4, pick 49, pick 53, pick 70, pick 73. (Jesse Hogan).

My count at this stage is we have 5 live picks in the draft. We're likely to use one to upgrade Nicholson, and we may save one for the pre season draft. Draft day won't be so boring it would seem.

I find it amazing that couldnt trade Bate or Petterd.

Oh wel,l even though some of these players including Gysberts and Morton may go on to do well at other clubs,i think we will be better for it in the longrun.

They obviously have a plan, and plan to use alot of those late draft picks.

My bet is they will continue to recruit experienced hardened bodies from leagues all over Australia.

As footballers, no value whatsoever. As people and human beings, lovely guys.

For now Bartram, Dunn, Sellar, Strauss, Macdonald, Jetta, Davis, Spencer, Bail all remain.

I expect Davis and Macdonald to go from this list later, at a minimum.

Whether we can entice Jacobs or not will have an impact.

Are you kidding?!!?!

Why would we get rid of Bartram?

Clearly in our best 22 if he played every game he could this year, also the fact that he is in our leadership group. He is rated.

And it is the uneducated football supporters that want him gone. Neeld is a 'role player' coach. You have a role, fulfil it and you play. Bartram is one of the only players that gives a crack. If our 22 played with the same intensity that he plays with i would be a VERY happy supporter.

better make that monday week not next monday (ie Nov 5)

it also depends on how big a rookie list you want

min is 4 max is 6 (with corresponding list of 40 or 38)

maybe that was why we picked up those low picks?

Bartram having a crack is one thing but if your skills are sub standard how he gets to stay on an AFL list amazes me. One of the worst turnover merchants in the AFL when coming out of defence & his kicking for goal is just atrocious. Good clubman or not, he's not up to it. Should have gone well before Ricky P.

Go Dee's! Only a hard man can make hard players! Keep it up Mark Neeld.

The following players will not be offered a playing contract in 2013: Matthew Bate, Ricky Petterd, Jamie Bennell, Liam Jurrah, Lucas Cook, Jai Sheahan, Leigh Williams and Kelvin Lawrence. Everyone at the Club wishes them all the best for their future endeavors.

Dees delist eight players

Sorry to see Bate go. I always reckon he had a go and was up to it in ability. Ricky didn't seem to have his heart in his play last season. Wish them and the others "Good luck'. Cook was a funny one. Not even one game in two seasons. He would have to feel they didn't let him show what he could or couldn't do on the big stage.

The fact his knee is completely shot might have something to do with it.

The fact his {Bartram} knee is completely shot might have something to do with it.

Then it's interesting that he hasn't been de-listed at this time.

Troy Davis a bit of a surprise after some earlier indications he might go.

Otherwise, it's a massive clean out.

To me Davis has a strong upside if he pulls the finger out.

He has been Off this year for some reason.

They may want to see what attitude he returns to pre season with.

Note in your calculations about the rookie list that there's been a reduction from 6 to 4

Which leaves us with Nicholson, Evans, Magner and Couch.

Presumably Nicholson goes up. Question mark over Evans and the other two can stay on the RL for another year and then proper decisions can be made.

That's why Ricky P is in the leadership group and Bartam isn't! Attitude, Respect & Culture!

Ricky had none of those. Turn it up!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
