Ollie Wines (188cm) 90KG

Elite Endurance Base

Hard around stoppages

A ferocious tacckler

All Australian

Ready to go Rd 1.

All round midfielder in up coming draft.

Jonathan O`Rourke (184cm) 73KG

Classy Midfielder

Makes excellent decisions

Very good speed off mark

Exception endurance

All Australian

I think we will either choose one of these two mids. Im leaning towards Wines, only cause he has a ready made body.

I am still of the belief they have done a deal with Toumpas. That is why they gave away pick 13, there is no other logical reason as they had no interest in viney, so GWS will pass on JT

Can lay london to a brick GWS will go

1. Whitfield

2. Grundy (in need of a young ruckman as they missed billy longer last year)

3.Plowman/O'rourke. ( they are in need of big backs= plowman)

Jimmy would be nice. Good spread player who can use the football really well.

From where I sit we gave away 7 spots in the draft for:

1. Viney at 26.

2. Dom Barry

And that's a deal weighted in our favour...

I too agree with Guido.

It just seems odd that GC used pick 2 for for MD1 pick and MFC used pick 3 and 15 for MD2 and never once complained publicly that they paid "overs"

Toumpas is perfect for what we need and GWS have an abundance of midfielders already on their list....perhaps a deal has been done!

Again, we didn't complain because that 'bad' deal for Hogan got us Viney in the second round and Barry.

Don't forget pick 20. We did pretty well out of that deal.

I'm surprised Hogan didn't go MD1. How often does a ready to go forward come through the draft? Not very often- not one with his attributes anyway.

Martin looks like he will be a star, but he will take longer to come on, plus I would have thought GC were just as desperate for a big forward as anyone.

Time will tell who took the better player, but in terms of most important player out of the two in terms of team structure, Hogan would have to be the pick there.

We got Dom Barry for a 7 spot drift in the draft and used pick 20 on Dawes.

I'd say we've done pretty well.

Chris Dawes had a stiff finger this year after surgery and thats the main reason his form dropped,

I trust Neeld and our staff will get this right before next year.

And for a 7 spot drift in the draft, Dom Barry comes to us for next to nothing and looks to be the most balanced

player to come through the draft since Stephen Hill.

Blease, Howe and Barry all have X factor and all came for next to nothing, they will be stars of the future.

i love the ferocious tackler part about Ollie Wines.

Him and Jack Viney destroying those young GWS boys would lighten up my life

The groupthink has convinced me that I want Wines (with no exposure to the juniors I have nothing else). If the reports of GWS' intentions are correct, this question will be a moot point though.

And you guys who think we've done a deal with GWS let Toumpas slide need to lay down the crack pipe. There's a much more simple explanation for what is going on which rpfc has spelled out for you.

A while ago i had said get O'rourke but from what i have been hearing, Wines is an all-rounder and can do very well as both an in and outside midfielder, whereas O'rourke is solely an outsider. with that i would go with wines as he will add yet more grunt to the mid and can also be a player that other insider mids can get the ball to to launch it forward.

As for a deal being done with GWS in the MD (hogan, barry and toumpas), it sounds very nice and if it was to be the case then that trade would most likely be the best ever! Can't really see it being the case though as Nasher and rpfc have already mentioned.

But we can pretend they're not on crack and hope that it might actually be true! Jack Viney even wants us to draft Toumpas. Maybe he's had a word to GWS...

But yeah, Wines for me if the crackheads are wrong.

ive said all along , its gotta be wines and it will be !, betcha my brick over ya crappy london town , worth about the same , so its a fair bet , lol the vines in the guts , that will do me

bring it on

Maybe I've missed something here.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to get Toumpas from what I have seen and read about him. But when supporters are saying part of Melbourne's deal to get Viney and Hogan is an agreement that Toumpas will be left for us at pick 4.

If this were the case, why would we not have given up pick 4 rather than pick 3?

Would love to be wrong but it doesn't make sense to me

As I've said on very similar posts.

Toumpas, O'Rourke & Wines.

feel Blessed if you got any of the three.

I hope the recruiters have this note on a piece of paper in front of them.

Hello boys, for pick #4 choose the highest player from the below list who is available

1. Toumpas

2. Wines

3. O Rourke

And for all the other picks, choose the cheekiest little forwards you can find, I want 3 of them.

Regards,

MN

Already a poll on this topic with other options:

http://demonland.com...raft-at-pick-4/

For the record latest results are

Wines 49%

Toumpas 33%

O'Rourke 7%

Grundy 5%

Other 5%

Plowman 2%

I say Wines myself, but if he were to be taken in the top 3 with Whitfield and Toumpas then I'd go with O'Rourke over Grundy.

I like Olisk's post above.

If Toumpas is available he would be the best fit for our needs IMO. Wines is probably the best available after the top 3 GWS are likley to take, and probably the most ready made mid in the draft?

Good god MFC fans over rate kids....

Barry was predicited to be drafted anywhere from 40+ to rookie listed due to being very soft, not getting alot of the ball and struggling to impact games on a consistent basis.

Yet you compare to him to a former pick 4 young star like Stephen Hill who tore juniors up??

Barry has some potential and could be a good player, or be very average like JB is for us.

Either way he has shown nothing to even remotely compare him to Stephen Hill other than being fast and not a white guy

I am not attacking just you.... but every kid that ever comes to MFC gets touted to be this amazing star and compared to some established player.

Bennel was going to be Mcleod.

Morton looked like Goddard.

Watts was Riewoldt 2.

Gysberts played like Pendlebury.

Tapscott is the next Chapman.

The list goes on and on and on and on and on.

Pretty surer HIlls was well before he was predicted, didnt "tear up Juniors"

Was the most speculative pick 4 in about a decade, good call non the less

Get your facts right on Hill, very late bloomer never really stood out at junior level, showed pace at schoolboy level but doubts were always there about endurance and ability to match it with bigger bodies and whether he could step up. It wa sonly his U/18 champs and end of season with West Perth which got him moved up very late

I agree with this but I feel we already have those types of mids with Trengrove, Jones and now Viney.

There all hard tackling players, we really need a player who can run and carry the ball from the center bounce.

Would like to get Tompas for that reasone but would be happy with Wines either way.

speaking of your beloved Falcons, i saw a brand new Blue XR8 Falcon with West Perth plates and massive red falcon logo on the bonnet the other day. haha looked quite sharp, but a little over the top!

Yes.... people who "never really stood out" always get drafted at pick 4.

Even if 4 was overs, he was still top 10, Barry would never in any universe have been anywhere near top 10.

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
