What trades do you think we'll make next week?

Curious as to what people think what deals we might get invovled in for the final week of trade period?

Obviously we'll look to get the Pedersen deal done. Would love to get Ray and after today's Age article I haven't given up hope,

Pedersen deal is sounding like it's going to be a 3 way deal with Roos and Port.

Morton & North Melbourne's Pick 38 to Port Adelaide

Ben Jacobs to North Melbourne

Pedersen to Melbourne

Martin & Pick 49 to St Kilda

Ray & Pick 57 to Melbourne

Would leave us in the draft with:

Pick 4: Wines or O'Rourke

Pick 27: Viney (FS)

Pick 57: Andrew Boston, Paul Marschall or Mason Woods

Pick 60: Jake Neade, Shannon Taylor or Will Hams

Pick 70: Dan Nicholson (rookie upgrade)

Edit: Updated 22/10/12

Hopefully Pedersen is across the line and that makes Martin even more tradable.

I'd like us to pick up a ready-to-go mid- I'd be happy with Ray.

Wouldn't surprise me if we drafted a mature player from outside the AFL with our 3rd pick.

I have nothing against either player, and they may do well at other clubs, but I'd be happy to trade either Martin or Petterd. Martin, because he doesn't seem to understand his role within the game, and does almost zero one percenters that I believe a Ruckmen must do. Petterd because he is inconsistent. I would love Ray at the club. He has been in an elite system which has produced excellent results. He would be able to help us transition to where we need to be, and be a solid citizen for our young blokes to learn from.

If we trade Martin to Brisbane........

Martin and pick 49, for pick 24(Stringer hopefully).....

I could be massively wrong on this point, but I think recruiting Dawes has made Petterd's skills more relevant to our forward line.

Petterd cannot seem to hold the first or second tall position in our forward line. That said, I think next to Clark, Dawes and Byrnes, there is now a role for a leading type, mid sized forward like Petterd.

I think he could add dimensionality to our forward line now. Will be disappointed to see him traded.

(re Petterd): I guess all will depend on whether he has "bought in" (horrible expression) to the Neeld mantra, AND, possibly more so as he didn't show a lot physically last season (?injury or just not fit), if Missen and Craig think he is physically up to the job. If either of those questions gets a "no" then I would be very happy if we can get anything for him, anything at all.

2012 WAS a shocker for many. Petterd and Martyn included. Ricky's been forced to play the big man't role for some time and opposition block him. C and D will help Ricky out here and Davey may well breath again.

I would retain Petterd and play him on the HBF.

his skill level is not good enough for that position

pretty harsh. Davey isnt that bad, Pettard is not that bad.

we arent going to get broughton. Hopefully martin goes and we get someone/something for him because he is just another player who isnt consistent

Petterd has played a couple of A grade games and had a couple of moments in other games people remember. People then forget that the majority of his remaining 50 odd games have been below AFL standard. He doesn't consistently work hard enough and is not quite good enough to make a position his own.

I agree, & I think key to Ricky Petterd's MFC career is where the footy dept see Howe & Sylvia's starting positions. If they're both across the centreline, I think Ricky is handy.

I'm punishing myself by watching all the replays ...

Ricky's token game was rubbish and Davey was shocking all year.

Time to move on with these two.

I agree, that's where he played his best footy when he first started with us.

He was fearless and attacking, then he punctured his lung and nearly died.

When he came back he was used as a forward and did a couple of good things but not as good as when he played down back.

Last season he was injured and never really got going.

I've always liked him.

All 22 of them? That's, err, commitment!

Thanks TLE....a very 'diplomatic' response :)

Yep! Do you at least try and soften the blow with whiskey, mood lighting and maybe some background buddhist relaxation music?

I would tend to agree, provided that their 2012 problems were not due to fitness / injury issues that have been addressed to the satisfaction of Missen and Craig.

The game's gone past petterd. It's played in a shoebox with no space for forwards to lead into.

He doesn't have the pace to beat his opponent in a sprint back towards goals.

At the moment you are best to play 3 hulks that split packs and take contested marks, and 3 mosquitoes who rove the packs and tackle.

I agree with the strategy: what we desperately need are the mosquitos. But who are they? Burnes? Barry, sometime, maybe. Jetta if he has a heart to heart with his ?cousin / 'brother' / namesake at Sydney?, Davey revived? The hulks Clark, Dawes, Hogan in 2014, ?who else now. ?Pedersen?
