WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES

Featured Replies

Wonder what we paid? I'm all for getting experience but in supposedly the strongest draft in recent history we have given most of our picks away?

He has just nominated us, no deal confirmed yet, speculation at pick 20, and i would hope we get a second or third round pick back

Dawes was attracted to Melbourne as we put a dental plan in his contract - something his last club wouldn't!

Just heard his manager confirm it on SEN. Dawes to Melbourne for pick 20!!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

20 is overs.

However that area of the draft is still pretty hit and miss. For every Fyfe and Callan Ward you get your Strauss/Swift/Blease/Notte/Weedon flotsam.

He was a Dees supporter as a kid.

Wow well done melbournefc and especially Mark Neeld and Leigh Brown!! just remember guys he is a center half forward premiership player will great leadership qualitys and will be add much needed structure and tall target for the dees!

Well done Mark Neeld and Leeroy Brown!

Glad to have him big guys don't get shorter the longer the game goes.

Walsh (Filth footy op) reckons 20 isn't enough trying to play hardball.

I fully understand the strategy - our biggest problem has been that we have been bereft of any leaders in the mid age range to help us nuture through our young talent. It pretty much says it all the Moloney, Davey, Green and Rivers were all left out of leadership group. Mitch comes to our club with some age and leadership and wow !

So whilst I dont want to pick up players for the sake of it Neeld is obviously looking to bring in some levels of maturity to help ease the pressure off the 20/21 year olds.

Geoff Walshe has just said there are better deals unofficially on the table than pick 20.

Tell him he's dreaming!

Walsh on Trade Radio trying to take back some leverage in the deal; 'he doesn't need to go, he's contracted, we would welcome him back.'

Don't freak out people, he is just making sure we know that the Pies can nix the whole thing if we don't give them something decent.

Geoff Walsh just said pick #20 won't cut it.

Doesn't matter. They will have to cave or keep him & they don't want to.

Geoff Walsh just said pick #20 won't cut it.

So, they recruit Lynch because Dawes was bloody hopeless this year and then in a meeting with Buckley Dawes is encouraged to look elsewhere, but he is worth more than a first round draft pick!! Gold!!

Isn't/wasn't every draftee a Dee's supporter as a kid?

I just heard him say that. Also said that no deal yet done with Melbourne. But surely 20 would do it. Wellingham would be considered a better player i would have thought and they accepted 17 for him (and many people said they got a good deal). Surely then 20 would do the job for Dawes. We can give them a bunch of steak knives if they want (Cook for example).

Here we go now we will see how well the dess negotiate. pick 20 is the max would rather see us go harder in a deal inc pick 20 plus a supplementary player that collingwood see potential in (maybe petterd) and we get Dawes plus a second or max third rounder we must not overpay!

Yesterday, when Moloney went to Brisbane I said the average IQ's of both clubs went up but with Dawes, ours has soared again but Collingwood ... pffft!

Dawes chose us over a number of clubs......

......hmmmm I thought we were considered an unattractive proposition......

hello ADC.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
