I could have been anything too, unfortunately I was nothing.

keeping Martin instead of Pederson could be the biggest win of the period (excluding jack of course :) )

This whole new Tippett saga has thrown a massive spanner in the works. Brisbane seem to be cooling on Martin with the minuscule chance they're back in the frame to get their number 1 choice.

Tell em they are dreaming.

So Pedersen is worth pick 33 but Martin isn't? Ok.

What a load of crap. Would rather just keep martin

Because Martin is doing precisely what for us ?

Just for a moment disregard any preconceived notions. What roles can either do, and what roles do we require filling.

Short answer is we don't have a lot of work for a super Gumby ruck type that gets lost in traffic but we do have a vacancy for a solid running back who can switch forward.

It's all all about role playing. We don't actually NEED Martin, not in the current design of our team.

I like Stef, I would hate to see him go. I think his athletic attributes are worth keeping. In the long run it may be better just to keep him

I hoped they'd trade Martin at the end of last season when his value was highest.

Now I almost hope this trade falls over because pick 33 for pederson is obsurd.

It also helps us if north can't get the Jacobs deal done as he might be there for us in the PSD.

It's official . Most supporters are a bunch of hoarders lol

No one wants to let anyone go ..... There all so "potential "ridden !!

The reality is we can't keep them all, we don't need them all. Some are ok players but are either 3rdor4th to the plate, struggling with either the physical side or the mental sides of the game, some both.

We just need enough effective players to perform as a cohesive ,competitive and successful team. There is only so much room in a lifeboat?

We have to accept also there will be some players that whilst capable are just not a fit for the current mould. It's nota social club it a working environment. Jobs have to be done and there are only so many positions.

I don't think Stefan fits the current design.

What are North smoking?

Pederson is a better version of Sellar and a worse version of Martin....

Pedersen and Martin are DIFFERENT types, thats the whole rationale about who and what we want.

Why do so many either miss this, ignore it or fail to grasp.

Pedersen can do some of what martin does and some.

Martin can do very little of what Pedersen can...thats the kapowee factor !!

Martin is a ruck who cannot play forward.

We are looking for a forward we can play in the ruck.

And we are doing this for a variety of reasons, the main ones being:

1. To keep Mitch Clark out of the ruck.

2. To have a player holding his weight when not in the ruck. Martin doesn't.

No..Martin is ( for our needs ) a worse version of Pedersen

Am more than happy to trade out Martin, its 33 for Pederson that bothers me, MFC have rocks in their head if they trade pick 33 for a 26 yo VFL player who cant get a game at Norf

So you would be ok if we traded Martin for Pick 40 and gave that to North?

If so, what does it matter if we got a overpaid for Martin?

Our target isn't a pick - it is a player.

Martin for Pedersen I would do - so if it ends up that way then well done to all.

Pick 40 isnt in the picture, pick 33 is. If we are lucky enought to be able to land 33 from Brisbane for Martin, there is no chance in hell id ruin that gift by swapping it for Pederson under any circumstance.

I agree, I would rather us get a good deal than get reemed in a deal for Pederson. If the Kangaroos want to low ball us and insist on a pick that he is not worthy of than I'd rather us not take him.

If we get Stef for 33 I will be stoked, if we on trade that to the Roos I will not be as happy.

So even though the target isn't what kid we could get at 33 you would still not arrange a deal with the Roos for Pedersen?

The target is Pederen, the resource is Martin.

You get it done.

I wouldnt mate, that just me though. If i was Melbourne id say 49, take it or leave it. If thats not acceptable, id move on. You dont give into a club asking big overs for a player like pederson, North are the new Collingwood. Wouldnt be offering anything lower than 49.

Well if I was Brisbane I would say '33? Are you kidding me' - but that's not the point.

We are trading Martin to get Pedersen. Whatever we get for Martin is irrelevant.

We want Pedersen, not the 33rd best 18 year old in the draft.

I'm not saying that we don't get swomething back but Pedersen is the target - not draft picks.

Completely understand where your coming from RPFC, just do not like the thought of giving up 33 for Pederson.

Last thing - we don't have 33.

We have Martin.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
