Sharrod Wellingham

If a player doesn't want to join us because we don't win enough, and it isn't going to be smooth sailing- then in my eyes that automatically rules them out of contention for a spot on the list. On account of them not having the kind of ethos we are looking for to rebuild our culture.. how ironic!

That's me off the Wellingham bandwagon.

I didn't actually see anything in that article quoting Wellingham; I only saw a few words from his manager. I doubt Wellingham has made any specific comments regarding the Dees, but imagine that perhaps he told his manager that the only move he is prepared to make is to the west, otherwise he would prefer to stay put at the Pies.

I think his point was 'stop worrying about whether we're getting mids through FA/trade week, we have our own'.

I don't necessarily agree, but I see his argument.

Cos our mids did so stunningly well this year (and last year and the year before that.....)

Our midfield is our weakest link by so far it isn't funny. Unless we fix it pronto we all be rooned.

Don't know why we are so annoyed at what a player manager says - I instinctively dislike everything they say. I mean - Lynch, Pickering, Nixon - these people would be loan sharks in another life.

Interested to see what happens when he meets with Neeld and Craig, sees AAMI Park and we shatter some misconceptions that thrive out in Eddiewood.

Isn't he going to the USA with Buddy?

I think we will be lucky to even get an audience from him

Wouldn't have a clue. I do know that Trade Week doesn't end for another 24 days and that IT HASN'T STARTED YET.

So maybe something can be done later...

Given Neeld was coaching him last year we prob don't need to interview him.

Given Pies need to free cap space (after cloke and Lynch deals) we need to deal with them (i.e. what would we trade).

If both of those are ticks Sharron is coming to the MFC wheather he meets us or not. He ain't no free agent.

Seriously how many times must it be said don't believe everything journos write and get your heads around manager's saying certain things to maintain face and trying to get the best deal for their player.

Meth Coast have not offered Sharrod a lot more financially than Collingwood, Freo have said no thanks to paying big money for him, Collingwood need to find room in their cap and will have already worked out a figure they can afford.

Nowhere is it directly quoted I don't want to go to Melbourne because they have no winning culture. He has not met with us so does not know the offer we will put to him

His manager does not want him to come across as a mercenary so says something along the lines of Sharrods decision will be all about money, remaining at a succesful club with a strong culture will play a big part in his decision.

It's not that difficult to figure out FFS

His manager did seem emphatic that he didn't want another Victorian side, but that could all just be in the game....

So I am hoping we can swing something here and secure Wellingham in the trading period.

he is a good midfielder with a great defensive game.

I rate him.

I'm glad you said that WYL so many talking him up as a gun, which he is far from. Tends to butcher it a bit but has good defensive qualities, runs hard, spreads and provides options as well as doing the 1%ers.

Good fit for the right price

Plus he has shown an ability to step up when he has more responsibility which is very important imo.

the type of player Moloney didn't become.

Neeld would want him i am sure for the right price.

Well youd think we only need trump teh original deal the Filth were offering. somewhere in the middle of that, and whatever Sharrod 'thinks' he's worth. lol Maybe a $1m over 3 ?? with options etc

still could be interesting.. as a hypothetical Dawes and Byrnes into teh forward line to assist Mitch, Sharrod and Viney into the middle to help out Jonesy and crew.

Suddenly youre a lot less shabby as a team :)

Yes exactly....and not forgetting a Toumpas or Wines, as well as another preseason into the likes of blease,Tapscott,Watts,Trengove and Grimes.

Id be curious to know how Brown and Neeld rate young Sharrod.

What with Taylor coming on board and the possibility of 2 pies joining the club there's more than a bit of Filth around the place ...

who are we again !!!! lol

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
